Four days ago I took my baby into VCA off of Freeport on an emergency, my dog had collapsed and from what I could tell he stopped breathing when I picked him up he was limp I did what what I thought was correct I gave him mouth to nose. I then called and arranged for him to be seen. He had a cough for approximately 3 months that progressively gotten worse,. I figured it was not kennel cough it lasted to long. He had been rubbing his face often, I was thinking something wrong with his teeth, ear or throat. When we arrived they took him in and after several hours they put us in a room. The vet comes in and the first thing that she says is that I need to consider euthanizing my baby, that he has a heart murmur, congestive heart failure, fluid in his lungs that will need to be pumped out, and the beginning of collapsed trachea. I need to seriously consider the visits, lifelong medication and his life expectancy of approximately one year. She then hands me a tablet that shows the cost of his visit *******. I then tell her that I would consider it when or if the time comes. Maybe I mistook the look she gave me but when we left I honestly believed that my baby was dying and I was an inhumane monster for making him suffer and not euthanizing him. The next day the vet called to tell me the results of the blood work. She tells me she had a radiologist look at his film and his heart, lungs, and trachea are fine but his blood pressure was high and she wanted me to bring him in two weeks with an additional cost of ****** to have his heart, lungs, and ******* looked at again. She then tells me to stop the heart medication. Today after I gave my baby the medication she prescribed for high blood pressure I noticed he had rapid labored breathing and consistent panting.. I called the vet hospital informing them of these issues and I wanted to know if it was safe to stop the medication they never returned my call. I am happy she did not talk me into killing my baby.
