We agreed to use Universal general engineering on November 3, 2021 to complete the following scope of work, re-tile both bathrooms and replace fixtures. On December 1, 2021 the key was picked up to begin work. After a series of calls and text on February 28th I emailed a letter asking to stop all work due to quality concerns. (See detailed timeline attached) The complaint is not only was there no effort to complete the project in a timely manner, the small amount of work that had been done was not to a minimum quality standard. This was determined by other licensed contractors and my general knowledge. The sub-par work included not properly sealing the walls around either bathtub / shower area prior to installing tile. Installed tile was uneven. Using an excessive amount of tile material due to not knowing how to install or work with Glass tiles. Uneven floors due to not knowing how to install smaller tiles onto the floors. Breaking the galvanized pipe in the ground in the hall bath and the toilet flange in the master bath. Resulting in significant expense to repair. After having other contractors look at the project it was determined we needed to remove ALL work done by Universal General and Engineering Inc. The estimated cost to redo and complete the bathrooms exceeded 29,000 dollars. Universal General and Engineering Inc has been paid to date $16,690. In checks of $6350, $6350, $3200, and $790. I am requesting a full refund, $16,960 plus reimbursement for the cost of repairing plumbing, $2147 for repairing damaged drain pipe + $493 for toilet flange, Totaling refund requested $19,600.
