At least 12 of the 13 types of seeds (I haven't tried the last type of seed yet) I bought from Kitazawa last Novermber had terrible germination rates (varying from 0 to ~25% based on what I see so far). Meanwhile the seeds I got from other sources (many from earlier years; all stored together in my freezer) almost all give satisfactory germination rates. When I contacted Kitazawa to let them know of the poor germination rates for this batch of seeds, I first got an email telling me that seeds need to be stored in a "Cool and dry (a fridge or freezer if you have the space)" place. However, after I replied that I put all the bags of seeds in a sealed plastic bag and placed them in my freezer I got an email the next day saying that "Kitazawa Seed Company does not and never advises to freeze seed". Storing dry seeds for many vegetables in freezers is common practice and it has worked well for my seeds from other sources over the past a few years. While I understand there could be other factors beyond Kitazawa's control, like environmental factors during shipping, that *** affect the vitality of seeds, I find it unacceptable for them to try to simply change their saying just to put the blame where it shouldn't be.
