1 starPlease avoid this rescue at all costs. They’re rude, unprofessional and condescending which is not what a rescue should be. I paid the full adoption fee for a kitten with the agreement that the rescue would pay for the spay and microchip. There is also a page in the contract stating they will take care of your vaccine appt, but when you call to make the appt they then tell you you have to use your own vet. They rush you through the adoption process and add on a bunch of overpriced supplies. I followed everything on the contract precisely. I emailed them for a spay appointment and cannot get ahold of anyone. They won’t return my emails, and their voicemail box is full. There are many wonderful rescues in the area, this is definitely not one of them! The Ontario Rescue

Wow, seriously you are lying! We have many corresponding emails where we have responded to all of your emails. And yes we have moved and because of the move our phone wasn't working for a month because of the transfer. But we still communicated through email and have the emails as proof. You were informed and signed a document that we do not provide the vaccines and that they are the responsibility of the adopter. This was explained to you verbally and then in writing. You were giving an appointment for you kitty's spay for July 3rd and you did not want that day. So we had to cancel your appointment because of this. And now you're here spreading lies. We can provide proof from our vet of this appointment with your kitty's personal information so people can see that you're being untruthful. We work tirelessly everyday saving animals including the one you adopted. Be friendly, helpful, and courteous. Not hateful, negative, and unethical.Shannon D.

This is a follow-up to my previous review. I posted my original review on July 24th and miraculously, I was offered a spay appointment from the rescue on July 25th, which I accepted and have proof of that. I never said there was no correspondence. I said after multiple attempts to contact them for the spay and microchip, I got no response….until I posted the review. They then cancelled my appointment because they said I “trashed” them online. Fair enough. I will GLADLY take my cat elsewhere to get spayed and keep my right to put the word out about this rescue because they are “trash”. They sent me an email calling me names and insulting my character. I feel the need to come back here to defend my integrity. Please heed all the warnings and reviews . Save yourself the hassle because there are a lot of great rescues out there. Don’t waste your time with this one.Review fromKristi H

1 starAlmost every bad review is the same story my family and I have experienced with this rescue. They know how to pull at your heart strings to get your money but then make the process extremely difficult from there on out. They upsell for you to purchase their food. They also make you purchase a collar and leash if you do not bring one in. They charge you the adoption fee which is supposed to cover the spay and any vaccines from that point on. They wrote the vaccine dates on a Post-it note. When I inquired about making my spay appointment the day that I adopted my puppy they told me to wait until the last vaccination. When I missed the vaccination on the Post-it note that was obscurely placed on the contract, I was told I would need to go to my vet to pay for the remaining vaccinations. They did not offer me any further dates.
None of their emails were signed with a name or contact information.
When I informed them that my puppy had been fully vaccinated and was ready for her spay appointment, they responded by giving me one date and one date only for her spay appointment. When I informed them that I would be in another state visiting my parents, they responded back that I would then need to reach out to my own vet for her spay that they did not have another date for my puppy and I would need to pay for her spay.
When entering the rescue, they had us go into a room where dozens of cats were kept. It was filthy dirty with hair, dirty blankets covered in cat hair, cats walking across cat walks above our heads, walking through our legs, and kept in play pens. I was there with my two young children and did not feel that this was up to code. I am not sure that this rescue has the animal's best interest in mind.
After I adopted my puppy, I also received a text from the " Foster family" stating that they received my number from the rescue. I did not give them my permission to give out my number. The Ontario Rescue

In response to review ID number ****** please see the attached contract signed and dated by ****** ****. Everything is done in writing for this exact reason, so there’s no room for hearsay.
****** adopted a dog from our facility and signed a legally binding contract with our rescue. She broke the contract by not returning on time to do her dog's vaccines. We tried to squeeze her in and left her a voicemail and never heard back from her. When she finally contacted the rescue the timeframe for the vaccine had passed. We didn’t have any appointments available so we asked her to please take the dog to her vet and get the vaccines done because her spay appointment was coming up. We didn't hear back from her again so we contacted her to show us proof of the vaccines because her spay appointment was coming up in two weeks. The vaccine was not yet done so she couldn’t take that spay appointment. We waited to get proof of the vaccine and made her a second spay appointment. She couldn’t make that appointment either because she was going out of town. We couldn’t give her a third spay appointment because we have hundreds of other animals that also require spaying and neutering. And she was now way past the 10 weeks given to her on her contract. We have our adopters sign a contract because we intend for them to follow it. This is the time when the adopter can choose to go somewhere else to adopt. Not complain and make things difficult because we cannot mend their every need. At the end of the day, this is a business transaction and it needs to be followed. ****** adopted on 12/24/2021 didn’t finish her vaccines until 3/12/22 this is because she was too busy and let the vaccines expire and had to start them over. Had she stayed on track her vaccines would have been finished 6 weeks after her adoption date. We still gave her another spay appointment which would have put her past her 8 weeks needed to complete her contact. Again, she couldn’t take her second spay 4/1/22 appointment (now we are 91/2 weeks past her contract timeframe). If you know that you’re in a contract to have your dog fixed why go on vacation. There are two options here follow the contract like you agreed to when you adopted. Or continue to break the contract and go on vacation. We told her in writing if she didn’t take that appointment (4/1/22) there would not be another one. Please read all the emails between Mrs. **** and the rescue. It wasn’t until we sent her a court letter that she got the dog spayed (this is 9 months after she adopted the dog from our facility). She ignored all of our emails after February 2022 and all we were trying to do was close out her file. And now this complaint is being done 9 months after the adoption.
The adoption fee covers the spay and vaccines ONLY if the adopter follows the contract. If they don’t follow the timeframe given at the time of the adoption there’s nothing that we can do. We have too many animals that need fixing and have to stick to the timeframe given to each Adopter on their contract.
In regards to giving her a post-it note, it’s no different than when you go to a doctor's appointment and they remind you of your appointment on a small card. She’s an adult and should put it in her calendar if she has problems remembering appointments. Why blame us for this? Have accountability for your actions.
And yes, we are a rescue and we don’t euthanize any of our animals and there are periods during the year when we have more animals. ****** needed to go into the cat room to view the dog that she wanted to adopt. This is because at the time that the dog she wanted to adopt was being surrendered we were out of space. But the family surrounding the dog was out of options and was planning on letting the dog go at a park. So, we compromised and placed the dog in the cat room. The reasoning for this is that the dog was not vaccinated and we didn't want diseases to spread. ****** is not a cat person and feels now that we have too many cats. Well, rude awaking ****** we are in the business of rescuing animals and not euthanizing them. Teach your kids the meaning of responsibilities because we would not be in this predicament if people assumed responsibilities for their animals if they spayed and neutered them, and didn't abandon them, or abuse them. You’re not a cat person and don’t have cats so any number of cats might seem like too many to you. We don’t have control that people are dumping animals at our front and back door. What are we supposed to do with them, euthanize them? No instead we give them a safe place to be until their forever home comes. Be part of the solution, not the problem. Ignorance like yours is why the euthanasia numbers are so high in shelters. We work tirelessly daily to clean and care for all of them, as volunteers, so we can make a difference and we do not need people like you to bash us just because you broke our contract and couldn't bully us into making a third appointment for you.
In regards to the foster contacting you after the adoption, this is very normal for our rescue. We always want to know if our animals are doing good in their new homes. That way if there are any issues, we can address them early on. It’s funny how you complain now about them contacting you when you contacted them to take care of your two dogs because you were going out of town. So, it’s OK for you to contact them in a personal manner but it’s not OK for them to contact you when they were only contacting you in regards to your adopted dog? The amount of time it took for us to reply to you took time away from our animals.
We have a city license and great rapport with out humane society both entities know how great we are and the work that we do for our community.
Please contact our rescue for copy of contract and emails between adopter and rescue. We should not have this bad review on file.
