Hi,I took my car for the biennial smog check to the above center today. I had also taken my car for smog check in 2022 to the same center and my car passed the smog test then. However, today the technician failed my car for smog based on visual inspection. The car passed all the other visual categories and also the emission control system functional check. He pointed out there was glue on the air intake hose and is not allowed. Hence he failed my car. The front desk person immediately called up the nearby ***** dealer and asked for a quote for the air intake hose for my car model. He turned around and said the parts would cost $85 and labor is $65, netting $150 for the repair. He also said he will waive the re-certification fee if I do the repair with them right then. I said no to his offer and paid $28.75 for the failed smog check and got the receipt and inspection report. I am filing this complaint because the business was trying to fleece me on a false/subjective pretext. 1. In the visual inspection category, it is pertinent to note that the technician has recorded "Not Applicable" for the Air injection category. How could he then turn around and fail the car on "Other emission related components system" by pointing to the glue in the air intake hose? If the air injection system is not applicable for the visual inspection, how could he fail the car for the same in another category. It is pertinent to note that the same center (albeit with a different technician) had passed the car in July 19, 2022 and noting the same "Not applicable" for the air injection system. 2. There is no visual hole or leak. The car is running excellent. Since then the car has passed all the functional smog checks thrice (7/24/2020, 7/19/2022 and 7/22/2024). It also passed visual inspection in 7/24/2020 at a different smog check center and in 7/19/2022 at the above center. The car passed smog test on 7/30/2024 through an independent referee program.
