Cubework has been extremely difficult to work with in regards to returning my security deposit. This comes after renting for 3 months and not making use of the space at all. At first I was told that they would get a check returned in 15 days. Then 30. Then 45. Now after a week of being told the check just needed to be sent, and two possible disbursement days, they have yet to send said check.Business Response

Dear Customer,
********************** takes all customer concerns seriously and strives to resolve matters promptly and fairly.
Regarding Mr. ***** claim, we want to clarify that our standard security deposit return policy is 3045 days from the end of the rental term. This timeframe allows us to validate any potential damages and ensure the accuracy of the return. At no point has any Cubework representative promised a 15-day return, as that is not part of our policy.
We would also like to provide an update on the security deposit disbursement: Check #**** was mailed on 11/04/25, and the tracking number is 9589-0710-5270-3221-7468-60. This check is in transit and should arrive shortly.
If Mr. **** can provide the name of the agent who allegedly provided incorrect information, we would be happy to follow up and provide additional training to ensure accurate communication in the future.
Cubework remains committed to professionalism and timely resolution in all rental matters.Initial Complaint

We have attempted to get back our deposit for our rent at the cubeworks location in *********. The company since April has been denying this from us. They say we have not requested a 30 day move out notice and repeatedly refused to help us. Then in May due to the previous contact we decided to screenshot their response and again in July now they still refuse to help us return our deposit. They again said we moved out without notice. Even though we have proof of their email.Business Response

Dear BBB,
Thank you for reaching out regarding Mr. ******** Hills complaint. We appreciate the opportunity to clarify Cubeworks policies and the intended use of our facilities.
After reviewing the details of Mr. Hills account, we would like to provide the following clarification:
Mr. **** leased a 500 sq. ft. warehouse unit at ************************************************************************* under his business name, Premium Herbs. His license agreement began on March 01, 2024, and his official move-out date was February 27, 2025.
It is important to note that Cubework already accommodates all basic utilities, including electricity, within the standard license rate at no additional cost. Providing free, high-voltage industrial power (such as 240V) for manufacturing operations would not only be commercially unreasonable but also unsafe and outside the intended scope of our facilities. Therefore, the licensees statement suggesting that such power should have been available is inaccurate and a false representation of Cubeworks obligations.Facility Specifications and License Terms: The warehouse space at ********************************************************************* is designed and equipped for standard warehouse storage and light commercial operations. Our license agreement clearly outlines the utilities provided, including standard 120V electrical service. The agreement does not allow modifications or installations that exceed the facilitys power capacity.
Intended Use Misrepresentation: Mr. **** licensed a 500 sqft unit, a relatively small warehouse space, and indicated he intended to operate a manufacturing or high-power industrial setup, which significantly exceeds the electrical capacity of our units. These requirements50-amp / 12,000-watt 240V powercannot be supported by our facilities.Actions Taken by Cubework:
- We provided guidance and support for standard usage.
- Our staff did not provide or order any high-capacity generators, as this would be outside our business practices and the terms of the licensed space. All modifications or electrical installations performed in the unit were done independently by Mr. ***** without our authorization. During a City inspection, it was discovered that he had tampered with the electrical panel himself, which is both unsafe and not certified.Compliance: Cubework enforces the terms of its licensed spaces to ensure safety and compliance with building codes. The unit was never represented or designed to support manufacturing operations requiring high electrical loads. We cannot accommodate operations that exceed our specifications, as doing so would create a significant safety risk and violate city regulations.
While we regret any inconvenience, the issues regarding electrical capacity arise from Mr. Hills misrepresentation of his intended use and unauthorized modifications, not from any failure on Cubeworks part.
Thank you for allowing us to provide clarification.Initial Complaint

This company has refused to communicate to me why I have not received my security deposit back. Upon leaving my space on 9/29/23 I was told everything with my deposit was good and Id receive a check in the mail. I even received documentation stating this. I still have not received my deposit OR any explanation. At this point Ive attempted to contact five (5) different individuals by phone, email and even text to get some answers. Not only will no one answer but no one will respond via text or email either. I did receive one and only one email asking if I had given a 45 day written notice. Ahh! I did not HOWEVER, I DID discuss it with the same man who initially rented me the space and he told me that was not necessary. He is conveniently one of the employees who apparently is no longer with the company. How convenient. This place was recently bought out and has new management; its unfortunate that poor management and under skilled people have been entrusted to turn this place around. Though this place is in a very blighted area, it has such potential. Cubeworks would be wise to employ folks who possess simple communication skills before giving under skilled people the responsibility of turning the place around. In the three months time I was there, not only did several vendors leave but employees as well. Id like to say there is simply a weak link in this chain somewhere however sadly, the entire chain is weak and needs replaced with folks who are actually skilled and qualified enough to take on such an ambitious project. So sad to see the great potential of a longtime KC landmark go down in flames simply because of frivolous oversight.
