shop replaced transmission with new one, They determined 4x4 transfer Case was bad. **** told me he would install a new **** OEM transfer case for $2000, which I paid. I live out of state and the truck was dropped off at relative's house by the shop. Truck not used for 9 months, First use was to move my belongings to my new home in **********. Less than 150 miles of use (19 miles into my trip to NM) the drive shaft ****** snapped off with the bolts and the heads of the bolts still in the ******. Damage was also caused to the muffler and body of the truck, along with the drive shaft when it broke off at 60mph on the freeway. Had to be towed back to LA by heavy duty tow truck. Trying to move the vehicle in 4wd (using front axle) I discovered grinding, noise and vibrations from transfer case and then noted it was never replaced. On subsequent inspection of a similar model and year truck, I realized that the rear driveshaft yoke ****** bolts were installed backwards. There is also no way a competent technician would make this mistake and could not have missed the transfer case problem after repair if they had road tested it and engaged 4wd. I am a former ASE master auto technician and auto shop teacher. Current shop ****************************, Insisted I provide the replacement parts. And claimed the shop had changed ownership since my repair and it was not his responsibility. I also had to tell them they needed to send the driveshaft out to be repaired. I have picture documentation of the damage and incorrectly bolted driveshaft . The vehicle is currently at their facility awaiting repair. I wish for them to complete the warranty repairs and replace the transfer case or refund me the $2000 plus tax I paid for the original repair as well as any parts I purchase for them to complete the repair, or transfer the vehicle to a competent shop and pay for them to repair it. Broken driveshaft attached that shows bolts installed backwards which caused the failure, Plus correct way.
