I went into the Fresno Vet ER on Saturday February 4 with my cat who, I found out, was partially blocked. They quoted me $4500-5100 for them to keep him for 36 hours on a catheter to ensure they could get all the crystals out that were blocking him. I cried and I cried because I don’t have that kind of money laying around, but my animals mean everything to me. They told me to think about it and call other vets who could help me, but it was a Saturday and I obviously wasn’t going to be able to get him in anywhere until Monday MAYBE. I feel like they knew this and knew how vulnerable I was, and used that to their advantage. After about an hour of sobbing and making calls, a girl comes in to ask me a price that would work for me. I had no idea what my options were but I said “probably around $2500”. I could not pay that whatsoever so they told me to set up a care credit account. They said “we’ll see what we can do with your budget”. They come back about an hour later with an estimate of like… $2700-3500, said that’s the lowest they could get it. Fast forward a month or so after spending around $3000 on the procedure and checkups, he became FULLY blocked this time. I go back on Monday March 13 to be given my options. I told them I couldn’t possibly pay another $3000 to get him unblocked again and this is what the doctor tells me within 20 min of being there: “we can unblock him right now, it’ll take 5 minutes, an hour to come down from anesthesia, and you can take him home”. I asked how much it would be, he quoted me around $350-400. I was STUNNED. He unblocked my cat, I paid, made him an appt for a PU surgery and got him scheduled for that Friday. When I met with the doctor for the surgery (which was not at the ER, just vet office), she informed me that his urethra was so tight & so tiny, that he would’ve kept on getting blocked. ANOTHER thing the ER did not mention. They would’ve kept taking my money! I feel scammed by the ER & want to know if I can get my money back

So our 10lb chihuahua dog was seen by these vets in the middle of the night and we were handed a high end and low end cost of what it would be. Not relevant but of course it was the high end. The vet comes back to us and tells us it is most likely a Trincea collapse but could be pneumonia or cancer. He heard the fluid in his lungs and said we wouldnt be able to do more without X-rays and other tests which was $3200 just to see the problem. We dont have that kind of money so we asked for medication to treat him at home. I didnt find out until 3 days later that they gave me motion sickness pills and PAIN KILLERS for my dog that has fluid in his lungs. I was irate when I discovered this 3 days later not knowing that I wasnt giving my dog antibiotics. I called them and the doctor said he didnt feel comfortable prescribing antibiotics without X-rays. What a **** joke. I then said so you were comfortable giving pain killers for collapsed trincea without X-rays? This place is only interested and making money. I pray people find another place that doesnt use your emotions for profit. By the way, I cured my dog with $20 antibiotics from Amazon. Congratulations on making your $800 for 2 hours of nothing. Pathetic.

We are sorry to hear your experience did not meet expectations.  We did recommend you recheck with your primary care veterinarian immediately.  These we part of your discharge instructions sent home at discharge.  Ultimately, it is the decision of the veterinarian on duty to determine what medications he is comfortable prescribing.  As Bear had not been rechecked as instructed, our veterinarian did not feel comfortable prescribing antibiotics without radiographs or a recheck at another hospital.  The medication sent home that day was for nausea and a cough suppressant (which is what the medication is used for in veterinary medicine).
