On Sunday July 6 I had my wife take our personal vehicle to own a car to get a quote for the trade in. They agreed to give me ***** for my trade in and even signed a purchase order stating ***** for trade in. So after negotiating price we agreed to a set price and my bank cut me a check for the vehicle. I drove almost 3 hours to my destination to find additional damage to the vehicle that wasnt reported and they refused to honor the set price for my trade in and were asking me to put ***** down to cover the balance! I refused and drove 3 hours home, wasting my time, the banks time money and gas.

    Business Response

    Date: 07/10/2025

Thank you for sharing your concerns. We understand your frustration. However, upon inspecting the vehicle during the trade-in process, it was determined that the condition of the vehicle was much rougher than initially reported or assessed over the phone. Because of the vehicles condition, we were unable to pay the original estimated amount of $4,000 as stated in the purchase order.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate your understanding that the final trade-in value is contingent upon the actual condition of the vehicle at the time of inspection. If you have any further questions or would like to discuss this in more detail, please feel free to contact us.
    Thank you

April 15th, 2025 I purchased a used 2017 ***** RC 350 F-Sport. I put $17k down to make the purchase. 4 days later the check engine light came. I took it to a mechanic to have it checked. The computer he plugged in gave the the code for a faulty Catalytic Converter & was not functioning properly and was not able to control the vehicles emissions as it should. He performed a visual inspection and confirmed the Catalytic converter was bad as well as an oxygen sensor which was caused by the bad Catalytic converter. He also noted no *** # was visible on the Catalytic converter. I told him the dealer asked me if I wanted it engraved into it it would cost me an extra ****** cash upfront for that. I said no. He informed me that effective 1/1/2024 CA made it a law that no dealer can sell a vehicle without permanently marking the *** into the Catalytic converter. They didn't do it at all & tried to charge me ******. My issue is they sold a vehicle with a faulty catalytic ****************** sensor that could never pass smog testing yet they have a piece of paper that says it passed which is impossible! Manipulating a smog test is illegal but so is selling a car in CA with a faulty Catalytic converter & illegal to sell without marking it with the ***. Now they are ignoring my complaints wether calls, texts or emails. Silence. They think because I'm a blonde woman that I'm stupid & will go away! That's not happening! I've filed a complaint with the *** and Attorney General too! They broke the Law multiple times & don't care! I do & I'm not going anywhere! ***** dealership is $6500 for the ******************** of the Catalytic converter. Since they are responsible & required by ****** to provide a functioning Catalytic converter /and operational components they need to refund me the cost to have the repairs done at *****. They should have fixed it before selling it to anyone. It's not a used car "As-Is" thing, it's a CA Law breaking thing! They need to quit ignoring me & pay up.

I bought a vehicle from Own A Car 6 months ago and a few days later I had issues with my passenger door not unlocking, the hatchback had a loose part and they never detailed my vehicle as promised. I called numerous times, sent email and have had no response!! I'm paying way too much for a car that wasn't what I wanted to begin with, the least they could do is fix issues or better yet don't sell cars with broken parts.

    Business Response

    Date: 01/16/2025

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your experience regarding your recent purchase. I understand that this situation is frustrating, and I appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns.
I would like to remind you that the vehicle was sold "AS-IS," which means that the car was purchased in its current condition with no warranty for repairs or replacements provided by Own A Car. During the sale, we do our best to be transparent about the condition of our vehicles, and I apologize for any miscommunication that may have occurred.
While I recognize that you purchased a warranty, it's important to note that each warranty has specific coverage limitations. If the warranty you've selected does not cover certain issues, unfortunately, we are unable to assist with those repairs.
I understand this is a difficult situation for you, and I recommend reviewing your warranty documents closely to see what is covered. If you have any additional information or documentation about the purchase or any communications with our staff, please feel free to share that with us.
Thank you for your understanding, and I wish you the best as you navigate this issue.

    Date: 09/11/2024

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns regarding the vehicle purchased from Own A Car. We understand how frustrating this situation must be, and we appreciate the opportunity to address your issues.
We note that you purchased the vehicle AS-IS, which typically means that the sale is final and that no warranties or guarantees are provided. Our policy, as stated at the time of sale, is that we cannot offer repairs or refunds on vehicles sold under these terms.
However, we do recognize the inconvenience you are facing with the catalytic converters and the subsequent repair costs. While we are unable to cover the full repair expenses, we are committed to supporting our customers as best as we can.
Given the circumstances, we are willing to offer the following:
Partial Repair Assistance: We can assist with a partial repair contribution towards one of the catalytic converters. Please contact us directly to discuss the details and arrange for this support.
Referral to a ************************** We can refer you to a repair shop that may offer more competitive pricing for the remaining repairs.
Review of Financing Terms: If you have concerns about the financing terms or feel there may have been discrepancies, we are open to reviewing your contract details to ensure everything aligns correctly.
Please let us know how you would like to proceed, and we will do our best to assist you. We value your feedback and hope to find a satisfactory resolution to this matter.
    Thank you for your understanding.

I am rejecting this response because:

I cant afford to repair I have a 7 year old and a 5 month old. I went into own a car 9 months pregnant thinking I was going to be getting a reliable car not a car that has two bad catalytic converters I need a reliable car to take one of my children to therapy and to school this car is literally breaking down on me and not worth it anymore . I would like us to be out of this lease and car please.

    Business Response

    Date: 09/18/2024

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concerns. We genuinely appreciate your feedback and understand how frustrating this situation must be for you and your family.
When you purchased the vehicle on February 25, 2024, it was sold As-IS, meaning that we did not offer any warranties on the car. At the time of sale, we did offer you a service contract, which would have provided additional coverage for potential repairs. We understand that you chose not to purchase it.
We want to assist you as best as we can. While we can cover the labor costs for replacing the necessary parts, we cannot fully absorb the cost of the catalytic converter. We understand that this is a significant expense, and we're here to help you find a feasible solution.
Please let us know how you would like to proceed, and we will do our best to support you in getting your vehicle back in working order.
    Thank you for your understanding.

    Business Response

Thank you for your response, and I sincerely apologize for the challenges you're facing. I understand how important a reliable vehicle is for you and your family, especially with young children and the need for transportation to therapy and school.
While we must adhere to our AS-IS policy, we genuinely want to assist you in finding a solution. Here are a few options we can explore together:
Trade-In Option: If you're open to it, we can discuss the possibility of trading in your current vehicle for a different one that may better suit your needs and budget. Down Payment will depend on your current credit situation.
Payment Plan for Repairs: We can work with you to arrange a payment plan for the repairs needed, which might make it more manageable for you financially.

I recently bought a car from them I was told that vehicle came with warranty for 3 years on engine and power train transmission. They offered an additional warranty for the vehicle that would cover anything else that would not be covered with first warranty. I did get it and thought I was covered for any unexpected issue. This pass week a censor failed and had to take to repair shop when I was told that neither warranty covered the censor so now I have to pay for repairs. My complaint is that they are selling warranty that doesnt cover what they say

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your concern. Im sorry to hear about the issue with the sensor and the confusion regarding the warranty coverage.
To address your concern, Id like to review the details of the warranties you purchased. Its important to us that our customers fully understand what is covered. I will look into the specifics of both the standard and additional warranties to clarify why the sensor repair was not covered.
Please provide any documentation you have regarding the warranties and the repair invoice, if possible. This will help us investigate the matter thoroughly.

On 3/13/24, my vehicle was being towed while I was at work. I went outside to ask the man what was going on and he said he had an order for repossession from Own A Car. I had recently purchased my vehicle at the beginning of January through Own A Car. I put down a deposit of exactly $3,280 and financed the car with Strike Acceptance which then became my lender. After the incident I called Own A Car to find out what was going on. I spoke to a man named ***, who states he was the manager, and was told that they knew nothing about the incident and needed to call the bank who financed the vehicle. I then went to call Strike Acceptance and when I gave them my information, I was told my account had been closed because Own A Car bought back the vehicle and couldnt give me any information because this was a something between the dealership and I. They also stated they had nothing to do with the repossession. I then went to call Own A Car Again, and this time I was put on hold. After a couple of minutes, the woman asked who I wanted to speak to, I told her I had spoke to someone named ***. She then said oh let me have you speak to ****** then was put on hold again. After awhile, she gets back on the phone and asked how she could help me and reminded her I had been on hold to speak to someone in regards to my car. She then put me on hold again and when she gets back on the line she says Okay, well you talked to ***, you talked to ******, you talked to ******* and they all told you the same thing. You cant get your car back anymore I then said sorry but I dont know who ****** or ******* is nor have I spoken to anybody else besides *** which lasted for about 10 seconds She then said I dont want to be the middle man, you should call back later and hung up. After that phone call, I called multiple times to speak to *** and was told he was busy and would call me at the end of the day. I never heard back. They have my car and dont want to give me any information.

We acknowledge your recent inquiry regarding the repossession of your vehicle. We regret any inconvenience this situation may have caused and appreciate the opportunity to address your concerns.
Upon reviewing your account, it has come to our attention that your vehicle was subject to repossession due to the non-receipt of your initial monthly payment, which was scheduled and outlined in the terms of your agreement.

I purchased a vehicle and within the first month it broke down leaving me stranded out of town, I took it to they're mechanic who "fixed it" and within a few day the same issue and again they're mechanic "fixed it" and again it left me stranded. Own a car took my vehicle to a different mechanic who fixed the issue but I took the vehicle on a trip out of town and it left me stranded again with the same issue, and own a car is not willing to help me. The vehicle was purchased used but I shouldn't have to buy a vehicle then have to deal with all these problems. They sold me a lemon and won't take it back.

Vehicle was purchased with ******* miles, and customer refused to purchase a service contract from us. We has the customer sign AS-IS disclosures with an acknowledgment of refusing to purchase a Service Contract at the time of the sale.

    Customer Answer

I am rejecting this response because:
I reached out to own a car march 6th 2024 at approximately 15:53 to I form them that the car left me stranded again and to see if they were willing to assist me due to it being the same issue, I spoke with ******* who said that due to its mileage they didn't have to help me. I let him know that I believe they sold me a lemon and he just said that he could recommend a mechanic.  All I want is for them to take responsibility for this lemon they sold me. Possibly exchange it for a vehicle that works properly.

    Business Response

Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention regarding the vehicle you purchased. We understand the frustration you may be experiencing with the issues you have encountered.
It's important to clarify that the Lemon Law specifically pertains to new vehicles, and unfortunately, your vehicle, with over ******* miles at the time of resale, does not fall under its coverage. We acknowledge your decision to purchase this particular vehicle based on pricing considerations.
We sympathize with your situation and would like to offer a solution that addresses your concerns. Should you be amenable to exploring alternative options, we are prepared to provide you with a fair trade-in offer for the vehicle experiencing issues. Additionally, we would be pleased to extend a discount on your next vehicle purchase as a gesture of goodwill.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to discuss this matter further or to schedule a consultation at your earliest convenience.
