Beware of Republic Tax Relief A Costly and Frustrating Experience If you take a moment to read through the legitimate 1-star reviews for this company, youll notice a disturbing trend and my experience is no different.Republic Tax Relief promises the world: expert assistance with your tax issues, attorneys working on your behalf, and peace of mind while they handle everything. In reality, they charge outrageous fees and deliver little to no actual help. Ive personally paid them $1,340, and now, eight months into this ordeal, they just contacted me asking for an additional $1,200 all before theyve provided any real service or resolution with the IRS.Ive raised concerns with them multiple times, yet here I am, nearly a year later, still with no progress on my tax case. The fact that they claim to have legal professionals involved only makes this feel more deceptive and damaging. Theyre not just wasting peoples money theyre putting individuals in worse positions with the *** while pretending to help.I genuinely believe many of the glowing 5-star reviews are fabricated. This company feels more like a scam than a legitimate tax resolution service. If I dont receive a full refund, I will be filing a lawsuit. And if youve had a similar experience, please reach out to me through ******. With enough people, we can explore pursuing a class action lawsuit and hold this company accountable.Businesses like this shouldnt be allowed to operate unchecked.

I've been working with the client to resolve his complaint. The issue is trying to get best possible result for tax filings which were done incorrectly. This takes time when he has a partnership that was prepared incorrectly and needs to be amended prior to filing his personal returns, otherwise there is a risk of an immediate audit as the *** records will not match.
This tax plan will shift the liability from $133K owed down to $16K. We told client that his corporate filing will need amending prior to completing his 1040 personal filing in order to prevent the liability. This will need to also include reissuing K-1s and filing a 1065X at a cost of $1200. This is the standard filing fee and is necessary to save client nearly $115K in taxes.
I've reached out to client to provide him a draft and he has acknowledged receipt and wanted to speak further. Since then I have followed up three times with no answer. I do not know how client can claim that this is a scam, saying that these are fake reviews, and seeking a lawsuit when he is receiving such a massive benefit on accounting advice that fixes his 2023 corporate filing that was self-prepared using TurboTax with major errors and accounting oversights that would have saved him thousands in liabilities and penalties to date.
It's our duty to Mr. ****** to get best outcome possible and any delays were due to getting documents from client to prepare his returns correctly and substantiated. These documents were retained in mid-May and by mid-June a draft was prepared based on the information provided. Since then, a *** has reviewed the full situation and instructed us to amend the filings to generate the better outcome. This is a win for client. Additional fees are necessary to complete added services for corporate filings to get client on the right plan to finalize correct tax filings.
I have not been able to get hold of client to finalize the return and get his authorization to amend his 1065 return with the added fees.

I hired the tax relief company to represent me with the *** to help resolve my 2022 tax debt. I did file Chapter 7 which took time resolve. After receiving my 2nd notice I contact Republic Tax Relief. They assured me they could help. But after a lengthy time waiting, I found out the Chapter 7 paid 27k towards my *** tax debt in Dec 2024. I was not notified by my Chapter 7 attorney or the trustee in regards to the disbursement of the asset funds. This being said Republic Tax never checked my current balance with the *** resulting in late fees and interest totaling over ******* which i could have paid off in December. My current tax bill is now over ******. I'm seeking ******* for the initial cost of services and the unnecessary accument of late fees and interest assist by the ***.

Hello Mr ***************** reviewed your casefile and although you did file for bankruptcy, we do not know the outcome of the petition unless you had provided us those details. Also your attorney should have detailed the results of the bankruptcy disbursement to you at the conclusion. For your tax liability, when you engaged the firm, the focus was to address the full tax liability on all years. You engaged the firm in February 2024 and we have since provided collections holds and started to gather substantial information and federal forms to submit your hardship petition. Since the bankruptcy applied some funds to the *** debt, your existing balance would still need to be addressed. Also, any interest and penalties are accrued over the entire course of your tax debt and continue to accrue if you are in a hardship petition or a payment arrangement. If your goal is to no longer petition for hardship relief in the form of a currently not collectible status 53, then I would suggest we simply petition for a penalty abatement and relieve you of your penalties (approximately $2,800) that you may qualify for and then you can pay off your reduced balance in full at the conclusion of the sale of your home. We could prepare the documents to send to you to do so for signature and submission. Since your casefile was with our office for over a year and your retainer was applied to casework already prepared, a refund is not in order. We have done our best to mitigate your balance and protect your form collections and try to resolve this to the best of our ability.

Kindly let me know if you would like to proceed with the petition for penalty abatement.

Simply put, I was promised first by ***** and then by a Senior Settlement Officer by the name of Nebula that they would stop the irs from garnishing my tax refund or owing any money to the **** After paying them $590, they failed to do that, instead they attempted to charge me $450 for some unknown reason and then stopped all contact. Once I received my refund, I noticed that $3,848 was missing from it and was taken by the ***. I immediately called Nebula, she apologized and stated that the money was not supposed to be taken and that she would reach out to upper management to get try and get a refund or at half back of what the *** took. That was about 2 weeks ago and I still have not heard anything.

    Business Response

    Date: 04/28/2025

Hello Mr *************** reviewed your casefile and it was noted that you had a tax liability for 2022 due to taking an earned income credit exemption and then being found ineligible due to unreported income. You received just under $5,000 in refunds for that year. In 2024, you were still unfiled, and we offered to do your tax filing for a standard fee. You declined. We needed this filing completed to finish the investigation into your tax liability and determine if the balance would increase. After you self-filed the return, you had another refund, and it was applied to the balance of 2022 since you were overpaid for that year. We could not control the actions of the *** unless you had disputed the income for that year. After reviewing the income with you during the investigation, you stated that you received all the income and that the tax liability was correct due to the overpaid earned income credit. After reviewing the case notes and recordings, the agent mentioned that we could reduce the amount owed to the *** if the income could be disputed and we could amend the return. After investigating, it was verified that we would not be able to.

The fees for our services were only to place a power of attorney on file, conduct an investigation, pull all transcripts and records, and have an attorney review the documents. A senior analyst reviewed these findings with you and communicated that your 2024 return would need to be completed and filed to proceed. This was the only subsequent fee mentioned. We do have a 15-day refund policy, but this is before the attorney reviews all documents and writes up their recommendations. Unfortunately, this period passed. I feel bad that the *** took your refund, but your 2022 return was filed with errors, and the *** used your 2024 refund to correct these errors.

If you have further questions, kindly let me know.

    Customer Answer

    Date: 04/28/2025

Regardless of the outcome, I was promised that the *** would not take any funds from me, secondly I was never told or given any warning about a 15 day period of anything. Since my funds were taken, the service was not complete and promises were not kept. Your Senior Settlement Officer stated that I would get a refund and someone would reach out to me well before the ************************************************************************ back. Lastly no one stated in the beginning that I would have someone charging me $450 for other services. I was told after I pay the $590 that I wouldnt have to pay anything else or worry about my refund being garnished by the ***.

    Business Response

    Date: 04/28/2025

Hello Mr ************************** agree that you were not billed more than the initial investigation fee of $590, which includes filing of power of attorney, collections hold request if necessary, 15 year pull of all transcripts and *** records, contacting the *** on your behalf to get current status and pending matters and review of all records and notes by the attorney of record. The terms of the agreement are outlined in the service agreement you signed on 2/21/25. You were contacted by the senior analyst on 3/26/25 to go over all the findings and follow-up questions the attorney noted and had. We went over your options and you were asked if you would like the firm to file your 2024 tax filing, since it was unfiled. You declined. We did not require this. Once you filed your return, you had your refund applied to the overdrawn tax year of 2022. We cannot control the outcome of tax filings and if you have a tax debt, then the *** will apply refunds to the liability. As I stated, If we could have fought the liability, it would have prevented the refund from being taken and it would have been delayed until your 2022 tax filing was amended, but you verified that all of your income was correct and you simply filed erroneously. We cannot amend a return that was audited by the *** and a balance was applied correctly. After reviewing the case notes, there was no promise made that your refund would be protected as this is simply not how the *** or how we present the services we can do for our clients. If there was something we could have done, we surely would have but we simply told you the cold hard options. We aim to be very transparent and forthcoming with what is available for our clients and do not bill unnecessarily. You were billed the minimal amount to review your case and filings.

I am sorry we could not be of more service to you but the services you opted in for were rendered to the best of our ability.

Kindly let me know if you have further questions.

    Customer Answer

Im not sure where you are looking in the case notes or phone calls, but promises were made by both ***** and Nebula that the *** would not take any funds. Even after I expressed my concerns, Nebula ******** herself stated that she make sure that I receive a refund and at least half of what the *** took out of my refund. Until those promises are fulfilled, I will be continue to request what was promised to me.

I regret to hear that our services have not met your expectations. To address your concerns, I would like to clarify the steps we've undertaken and outline the necessary actions moving forward.
1.Our review identified unfiled tax returns dating back to 2010. We prioritized preparing the returns for your review, as the *** requires all outstanding returns to be filed before considering any resolution. Please note that processing times for past-due returns can be extended, and we don't have control over the IRS's timeline.
2.Establishing compliance is crucial in resolution process. This includes timely filing of all current taxes and ensuring any balances are paid. Failure to do so can impede our ability to negotiate effectively with the IRS.
    3.Our engagement comprises multiple phases:
Phase 1: Investigation and filing of POA forms
Phase 2: Preparation and filing of all missing tax returns
Phase 3: Resolution, includes negotiating with IRS based on your financial situation
Each phase requires separate engagement agreement and associated fees. Per our records, you have completed Phases 1 and 2, with the preparation of six years tax returns at a fee of $2,450, outlined in agreement signed on 2-23-23. Moving to Phase 3 will involve additional fees, which will be detailed in a new engagement agreement
4.There was a period during which payments were not received for seven months. This impacted our ability to prep and file your returns. We have tried to accommodate your situation and have communicated any delays and requirements throughout the process.
**** proceed with any potential resolution, it is imperative that you file your 2024 return promptly and address any balances. This step is key to demonstrate compliance and strengthen our position in negotiating with ***
I assure you that we have acted in accordance with our engagement agreement and have been transparent about each phase of the process. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me

    Business Response

    Hello Ms. *******-********,

I have reviewed your casefile and you had approached the firm due to you wanting to resolve your tax problem. We had started a tax investigation and filed power of attorney with the *** to retrieve your last 15 years tax records and transcripts. We contacted the *** on your behalf to perform a thorough tax investigation. After doing so and reviewing all documents, you would need to file all missing tax filings, 2018 to present, seven years. We would need to do filings based on your wage and income, which included W2's, 1098, 1099, self employment and investment sales. With all schedules considered, the fees for those services were outlined to be $2800. I do not understand where you state that the company tried to bill you for $5000 additional services. Our fees are reasonable for the amount of tax services and filings you need to have prepared and are done by either a CPA, Tax Attorney or Enrolled Agent. After filing, then we can determine any liabilities you have, assess your situation and discuss your options further. Until you establish compliance with all missing filings, we do not know your full options. All services up to date have been rendered and the retainer you funded was used towards the tax investigation and placing a power of attorney on file and collection hold if required. We do offer a cancellation policy within 2 weeks of filing the power of attorney, but your request for a refund was after the tax investigation and 4 weeks after that period expired. Kindly let me know if you want to move forward with the filings required. We can send you your tax documents retrieved as well if you would like to prepare the returns on your own.

    Kind Regards,

We do not control IRS timelines but this case is actively being worked and no collections have taken place. Client must maintain compliance to resolve old tax debt and have zero balances for three years to not have an OIC revoked. We are actively still engaged with the *** on this matter and we have communicated this to the **** The *** offices were closed over the holidays and we could not get updates.

Thank you for you continued patience and rest assured we are working as quickly as the *** will permit.

On October 25, 2024, I completed a 3 payment installment plan of $590.00, I was later contacted by an associate with a resolution that I did not agree with so I turn it down, I ask for a partial refund because I didn't want them doing something for nothing. Business Response

    Date: 11/18/2024

I have reviewed your case file with the tax attorney assigned and would like to outline the available courses of action.Your total tax liability across two years stands at approximately $6,000. For liabilities under $10,000, the *** generally anticipates that this amount can be collected over the next decade and is less likely to approve a settlement. While a settlement is possible, it largely depends on your tax history and income-to-expense ratio. Based on our investigation, the most effective approach in your case would be to request a penalty abatement and establish an affordable installment agreement. The proposed monthly installment is $105. If you require a lower monthly payment, this would necessitate a detailed submission of your financials to justify the reduced amount, which involves additional work and fees. Given the relatively low balance, we advise against this approach as it may not yield substantial benefit.Regarding refunds, our fees cover the work completed once we have filed a power of attorney (POA) on your behalf, retrieved *** records from the past 15 years, and had an attorney review the file. This process is designed to protect you from *** collection actions during our tax investigation and is outlined in the service agreement signed at the start of the engagement.Since you have indicated your intention to resolve this matter independently, I can close the case. If you would like us to send you the forms for the installment plan, please let me know.

I had been scammed by ******************* so I tried to deal directly with the *** myself which turned out to be impossible. So I thought I'd give another "tax relief" company a shot. I expressed my concerns given all the negative reviews and complaints about Republic Tax Relief that reflected all the same problems I had with Anthem. ********* assured me they'd been in business for years with proven results etc. She convinced me to pay the $590 and told me in writing more than once that they would negotiate a payment plan for me at NO EXTRA CHARGE. Then their "tax expert" contacts me and says I must pay $750 per year to file six years of back taxes before they could help me. That's an expensive fee for a 1040. They must be using golden ink in their pens. From the beginning I told ********* that the first company that ******* me also said they would file those taxes for me and did not so they remained to be filed. She had this information when she told me NO EXTRA CHARGE. So she's either a liar or incompetent. I sent her an email regarding her broken promise and of course she tried to finagle her way around the issue as she had done no such thing. I reject anything she has to say before she says it because, like the other complaints here, it will be the same old meaningless scam artist jabber.

Dear Mr. ******************* reviewing your case with our analyst and settlement officer, here is a summary of your current tax situation and necessary next steps.

    Outstanding Tax Debt
You have a tax liability of approximately $78,000 for tax years 2014 and 2015.

    Unfiled Tax Returns
Our records show unfiled tax returns for 2017 through 2023. Additionally, there is an identity theft flag on your 2021 filing, which requires further investigation.

    Foreign Filing Requirements
As a U.S. taxpayer with possible foreign financial interests, you need to file Form 8938 (Statement of *************************** Assets) and, if applicable, the ***** These forms are critical for reporting foreign assets and involve additional requirements and fees.

    Document Preparation
We have provided wage and income documents for your pending returns. You may file independently or, if preferred, we can assist with the preparation.

    Future Liabilities
After completing all required filings, your balance will increase due to penalties and interest under IRS Sections 6651 and 6654, likely resulting in a significantly higher amount owed.

    Services Rendered
The retainer paid has been applied to:
Filing a Power of Attorney for IRS representation
    Conducting a 15-year tax investigation
Consulting with our tax attorney and *** for an effective resolution
    Placing collection holds if needed

Our senior analyst has reviewed your situation with you, including the requirements and fees for the unfiled returns. I understand the additional steps may feel burdensome; however, the complexities in your case require careful handling.

    Next Steps
After filing, your balance could exceed $100,000. Delay may lead to escalation, including possible assignment to a Revenue Officer for collection actions. Addressing this promptly is advisable to prevent further complications.

We are here to guide you through the process. The fees youve paid have been applied per your service agreement.

    Best regards,

Reject! I was told the $590 I paid was for them to negotiate a monthly payment for me and I was promised that it would not cost a ***** more. I have the email correspondence. Now they say it's a retainer and I must pay $750 for each tax return blah blah blah. Complete scam just like all the "tax relief" people.

    Business Response

    Date: 11/19/2024

Hello Mr **************** all the firm can do for you is to negotiate a payment arrangement, there would be no additional fees. Unfortunately you have missing tax filings. When you complete those filings we can do so. We have never wavered from this arrangement. If you would like the firm to complete the returns and file them on your behalf, there is an additional fee. Or you could do them yourself. We are not forcing you to use our services. But these must be completed before a payment arrangement can be set up with the ***. It is a prerequisite of the ***, not the firm. When the filings are complete, processed and assessed by the *** with penalties and interest, then we can set up a payment arrangement. Please understand that waiting will make the *** file a return on your behalf eventually which would be with no eligible deductions.

    Kindly let me know.

Reject, I made my situation crystal clear from the first phone call. I was told, even scolded, for asking more than once if it would cost more than the $590 I was told it would cost. I was reassured that it wouldn't, I have the email correspondence. Same old tax scam blah blah blah.

Instead, he suggested payment arrangements or a temporary 6-month hold on collections. On querying the progress on my tax returns, ***** admitted to not having reviewed them and acknowledged his company's incapacity to offer support. I requested a refund and a satisfactory resolution to this issue. The situation highlights the predatory practices of this company on susceptible individuals like myself. I urge others to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to such deceptive practices, which can lead to significant financial losses.

Hello Ms. *************** was able to review your casefile with the compliance team and the *** that reviewed your tax return that you wanted amended. Originally, we were to address your $14K tax liability from 2023. Based on the metrics involved some options presented to you were a fresh start program or a non collectible status. Each has its advantages and disadvantage's and you were explicit that you did not want a lien on your social and felt the tax filing was incorrect. Upon careful review of your tax filing, your schedule C was very susceptible to a further audit. The *** felt that exposing yourself to a further review would put you at more jeopardy and possibly expose you to a larger liability with disallowed expenses. Our job is to mitigate your exposure to the the *** as well as reduce your balance. You were adamant that you wanted to reduce your balance and therefore we could only offer you a payment arrangement and a penalty abatement. You did not want to move foreword with a suggested CNC Status 53 nor an Offer in Compromise, that were also suggested. We had outlined multiple options and you did not want to move forward. We have done as much as we could to satisfy you through the professional experience based on your case specifics we feel was offered and keeping all options open, without putting you at higher risk.

Kindly let me know what else we can do to help you.
