They are the worst company to do business. We submitted a loan file to them on May 26th 2022, We received condition loan approval. We kept sending them the documents they requested and each time received more conditions.

An appraisal was ordered and paid by the borrower.

After multiple requests for updates, we kept being told that underwriting was working on the file and we would get a response soon.

Finally on July 8th we received an email in large Bold type which said they could the loan was not going to work.

I contacted their AE Cameron Smith who told because some of the funds could not be seasoned they were not able to do the loan. I asked for something in writing for my files and he informed me that they were working on it and I would be getting me something in writing by Monday, which was July 11th.

On July 11th, I requested that the appraisal be released to another lender so they could do the loan and **** Soronen said he would not release the appraisal because the borrower was unable to meet the conditions.

I informed him that the borrower had paid for the appraisal and he was entitled to the appraisal file and he kept telling that the borrower was not entitled to the appraisal file because he could not meet the conditions.

I have recommended to the borrowers to file a complaint with the BBB & also file a complaint with the state of California and possibly contact an attorney.

**** Soronen does not seem to be concerned that their actions are putting the borrowers deposit at risk. He is extremely rude and refuses to release the appraisal.

I can't say enough bad things about this company. Against my better judgment after reading all the negative reviews across the web, I decided to give them a chance. And boy was I wrong. This is by far the worst lender/company I have ever dealt with in my life. I can't comprehend how they are still in business after all the years of terrible experiences by people and after the nightmare I went through. The process started off ok and then after about 1/4 of the way into it I started seeing cracks in their operations. I am a grade A borrower with perfect credit, assets, and income. This should have been easily executable for them and they constantly found a way to mess everything up time and time again. I've never been treated so horribly and deplorably In my life. Loosing countless hours of time, money, and resources. I lost many nights of sleep and had overwhelming stress being constantly told one thing and another would happen. Being asked for documents that Fannie and Freddie backed loans never even asked for and this company is supposed to be a hard money lender. But of course I complied and kept my mouth shut doing whatever they asked as soon as they asked and got it to them right away. I've closed countless different types of loans over the years and some I had a less than ideal experience, but none were as horrendous as Athas Capital Group. I will be reporting them to the attorney general, the BBB, consumer protection agency, FBI, and department of justice. They will drag you along and cost you countless stress, time, energy, and resources. This company is a fraud. You will loose your deal and will get strung along until you just give up and walk away. They are guilty of gross negligence, lying, unethical, ignorant, incompetent, and behavior deceptive behavior.

Unethical company. Won't disclose information until the 11 th hour. Took my loan over 5 months to close... then we got the "clear to close" on a Thursday, signed at my attorneys office Monday at 11, didn't receive funds until 4:45 on Tuesday. We live in New York... that scenario is unheard of. Unethical bullies.

Absolutely atrocious company. Rude, dishonest and unethical. My experience was brief and unpleasant. The other reviews sum it up. Run as far as you can from these scumbags. I ended up walking away.

I had "direct" contact with Benjamin ****** and Evet S***...both extremely rude. Evet called someone who wasn't even my employer to verify my employment and then when I reached out and asked who she was (had never heard her name before) she had an attitude. Benjamin "works at his own pace" ie F you, who cares about your closing date.

Please, trust me, just claim more income on your tax return next year and get a real loan from an ethical company. It's not worth it.

If we could use a ZERO, we would as they have made this simple process of closing on a house a nightmare. We were led on and on with yes we will be closing. Then more documents were needed. Extended the closing date from April 30, 2021 due to issues with getting an appraisal as they didn't request it till mid April? This deal started the end of January 2021(issues with title company fixing paperwork) but all said they knew we need an appraisal. So finally get the appraisal July 2nd, ugh. While waiting for heating system verification and fixed items on appraisal( week before July 2nd) we are waiting as this is all they said they need to close this deal! July 2nd we get the appraisal back again and expecting to close but we don't close as no return calls or emails. Just waiting on a closing date but then July 5th they now want a new proof of employment and updated bank statements. WHY not ask for all that while waiting for fixed appraisal? WHY are the new requests days later? All done mid July and no contact as they are horrible about returning calls or emails. Only send updates per Leanne Tuesdays and Thursdays(last one we got was July 5th) My husband actually drove 5 hours to their office on July 28th as we were to close on the house July 30th. He was greeted by Laura and told to his face we would be closing Friday! He even went back with a card and donuts to get confirmation and again told yes! NOPE our broker received an email on July 30 requesting a huge list of requests again! We have put more and more earnest money down, non refundable, to extend again and again, as we asked them several times if we are good to go. Yes was always the answer. If they would have told us it will take OVER 3 months to close on a very simple deal, we would have went elsewhere. This is the worst for communication business I have ever dealt with and we are out thousands of dollars because of these people. HOW THEY CAN SLEEP AT NIGHT is beyond me! We have bought other homes and NEVER EVER had anything close to this. We are business owners and I have managed many businesses of different types and this is NOT the way to treat people!

Athas Account Executive have cross a line by using foul language, threatening me. I have never been so disrespected in my professional career like I did now and I want to bring awareness to other to avoid using them and have a headache. I will paste the email and you judge for yourself...

You can go **** your self, we do not need your business or you whining. So I will cancel this loan and put your company on our black list .I will make sure you will never be able to submit loans to Athas or any of our affiliates even if you move to another lender.
