I am filing this complaint against Belfor Property Restoration over $10,517.04 in disputed charges for mold remediation, exceeding the approved estimate of $5,074.08. These costs were neither disclosed nor authorized. Belfor’s poor communication, procedural failures, inflated charges, and false claims have caused undue stress and confusion.

    Key Events:
    - 5/23: Hippo approved $5,074.08, paid $5,000, and marked the claim “concluded.”
    - 7/23: Belfor completed the work and pursued a COS, which I initially refused due to lack of insurance approval. They never entered my home again after July.
    - 8-9/23: After significant pressure, including an unannounced visit, I signed a Belfor COS and Alacrity COS for repairs, not mold. No charges were mentioned.
    - 6/24: Belfor left a voicemail about an outstanding balance. Recovering from surgery, I could not respond and never heard further from Belfor.
    - 11/24: A debt collection notice from Saturn Systems revealed a revised estimate dated 9/23, doubling costs. This was the first and only time I received this estimate. Belfor and Saturn also falsely claimed I withheld insurance payments, disproven by Hippo. Repeated requests for itemized invoices and prior contact records were ignored.
    - 11/24: Hippo confirmed Belfor misused the COS signed for repairs, applying it to mold remediation despite no record of my signature on a mold COS.

    Attachements show:
    - Lack of authorization for additional charges.
    - Misleading communications and unsigned COS for mold remediation.
    - Discrepancies in revised estimates, including inflated charges, retroactive pricing, and invalid inspection dates.
    - Deficient debt collection practices and lack of transparency.
    - Complete timeline of events

    Resolution Sought:
I ask for help from the BBB in holding Belfor accountable and assisting in the removal of disputed charges, cessation of collection efforts, and disclosure of full documentation.

    Thank you,
    Ahmad

on, August 20th, 2022 my house flooded, caused by a toilet valve in my guest bathroom. My daughter ***** called ****** to help with the water damage and to help stop further damage. ****** came right out and started the drying-out process as well as doing the flood cut on the drywall. They were on top of this process and pulled up the flooring that was damaged but was extremely messy during the process damaging curtain rods, curtains, trash cans, and other items in my house. They got it all dried out within a week and then my house sat there waiting on insurance to do a claim. ****** was super slow in getting a repair estimate to the insurance. We waited about two months for this whole process and for the insurance to approve the claim. Insurance paid me the money and I waited for ****** to get back to ***** and me with a date for the repairs to start. But first I asked to see the contract and sign it if I agreed with the repairs. They emailed the estimate to us which included flooring and some other work. I told them I wanted an updated estimate without flooring costs and the other repairs because I hired a flooring company on my own. They said we emailed it to you. I said I never signed anything and I wanted an updated estimate. I was never provided a new estimate and they said they could start the repairs at the beginning of November but I said don't start any work until I get an updated estimate. They called just before repairs were to begin and said it was delayed until after Christmas, then called and said it was delayed until the end of January. I told them I was hiring another company and they somehow were able to fit me in the first part of December. Needless to say, they started the work without a signed contract and didn't do half the repairs in the old estimate and now they are saying I owe them over $12,000. On April 24th I requested the signed contract and called there but nothing has been provided. This company is unresponsive. Thank you******** *****

A storm hit on July 23rd, 2022 in which case my roof was damaged to the house I am renting. I reached out to my landlord whom quickly filed a claim with home owners insurance to begin repairs as quickly as possible. I left out of town on July 25th, 2022 and was notified by my landlord that roofing company (Belfor) was selected and they would be at the house I'm renting on July 26th, 2022. They determined there was water damaged in certain areas of the walls as well as asbestos and they needed to dry it up and tarp the roof. They used three dehumidifiers (one in my living room, bedroom and storage) as well as 8 fans. I returned home on August 3rd and all the equipment was still set up in my home running non stop. Someone would only come to my home during the day to check moisture levels take pictures and leave. On August 8th a crew came to my house requested I move my belongings to a containment area and that I leave the house so they could do an abatement, causing them to remove walls in my living room, bedroom and storage. The roof is still with tarp at this point and no one has begun those repairs. I returned to my home August 12th as the abatement was done and was told my children and I could come and go for our belongings as needed. By Sept 7th no one has been to my house to work on anything the roof still left tarped up as well as the walls and insulation missing from living room, bedroom and storage areas. Friday Sept. 9th, 2022 It began raining around 3pm I picked up my child from school and came back to the house and seen water has been running into my house and now soaking the carpet. I immediately notified my landlord of the problem and coincidently while on our call Belfor contacted him to set up another inspection for Monday Sept. 12th. They were then notified of water coming into the house. A few gentlemen representing Belfor were sent to my home same day they arrived added tar, tape and fans. Sept. 12th, 2022 1am It's raining in my home again.
