On 7/3/2023, I called JBAC&H to confirm that they do warranty work on ****** air conditioning systems. They confirmed they do and said the service call would be $79.The service tech diagnosed a failed capacitor but said that the capacitor isn't covered by ******** warranty. I paid $249 for a replacement capacitor, as well as $79 for the service call plus sales tax minus a $24.99 "preferred customer" discount. Total paid: ******************, I did the research and learned that, in fact, the capacitor is covered under ******** warranty. I called JBAC&H on 7/18/23 and spoke with ****. He agreed that the capacitor was covered under warranty. He said that the tech was "mistaken" and that that he would "get with the office" to issue a refund. He also said he would call back once it had been completed.Six days later, on 7/24/23, I hadn't heard back from ************* I called again. This time the story changed. This time he said that JBAC&H charges customers a $259 warranty claim fee, so the net effect is that I would receive no money back. I asked **** who benefits from the $259 warranty claim fee and he said it is split between ****** and ****** because they both have costs when it comes to warranty work. He went on to say that warranty claim fees such as this are typical in the industry. On a whim, I contacted another local service company listed on ******** website for a 2nd opinion. This rep confirmed that they don't charge a warranty claim fee and neither does ******. If it is JBAC&H's practice to charge an additional $259 on warranty claims, that should have been stated as an addition to the $79 service call fee when I first called them to confirm that they do warranty work on ****** systems rather than after caught deceiving me about warranty coverage on a part.At best, this is unethical behavior.
