10-30-24 paid $3000 deposit for engine rebuild and get truck to run, by 04-2025
11-12-24 truck was picked up
Minimal communication
01-6-25 informed shop I had put insurance on truck, in person visit
02-06-25 additional $3000 put down.
No communication unless I called.
Late May I called to have my truck back. 2 weeks no communication
Around 06-09-2025 to 06-12-25 I called again requesting my truck, day after they say they will have it towed to wherever if I pay the remaining $591.91. I pay over the phone $614.91. my truck was never shipped to me. I had to call again the next day and demand my truck. Upon receiving my truck wires were running along side the vehicle under the hood. Parts missing, other pieces not connected. Parts that should have been changed look old. Possibly they caused more damage to other parts of vehicle, I am unsure. I asked them to come to where I had the truck and fix it, on their dime, they refused. I have spent $6,614.91 on a lawn ornament. I do not know if my motor even works, I haven't seen it start. They were also supposed to change the ignition out. I cannot even remove the key and the steering wheel is clicking when it turnsBusiness Response

**** ****** hired B&A Engine Works to rebuild the engine
in his 1988 S-10. **** arrived in the
shop, put a downpayment down on the truck and claimed he could not pull the engine
himself. As a courtesy to the customer,
outside of our general offerings, we arranged for ****** truck to be towed to an
automotive repair shop.
10/30/24, a husband of B&A employee communicated with
**** about picking the truck up on his trailer and moving it as a favor after
**** made his initial deposit. **** made
arrangements with him to be at the residence on 10/31/24.
10/31/24 it was discovered that the vehicle did not have a
key and the steering wheel would not unlock.
Therefore, the arrangement as discussed would not work. A larger towing operation was necessary. **** stated he would try to make arrangements
to take the truck to the shop in Barling, AR. A larger tow service was contacted by B&A
and at tow truck’s convenience they picked up the s-10 and took it to ******* ********** in Barling, AR for extraction.
The engine was extracted by ******* ********** for $900 (that
was passed through to the customer and reflected on his invoice) and the engine
was delivered to B&A Engine Works on 11/10/2024. B&A Engine Works began tear down
procedures on the engine on 11/12/24. By
3/21/25 the engine rebuild was complete. The rebuild was more complex than anticipated
due to the extensive rust and corrosion pitting observed inside the engine as a
result of prolonged sitting.
Additionally, a cylinder head core had to be located due to ******
cylinder head being cracked and unusable.
The shop that removed ****** engine did not have time to
re-install and as such, it was moved to ******* ********** in Cedarville AR on
4/21/25, at ****** request.
In the mean time, **** requested that the shop make
additional repairs to his truck, but specified that he wanted all of these
repairs done under $1000.00. I provided
the parts quote that was given to me by the shop. They said they had already ordered
the parts. I told **** the parts came
out to $500+. **** provided that he did
not have the money for parts so expensive and asked if I could ask the shop to
send them back and order a cheaper brand and put it on his invoice. I made that arrangement and ordered **** the
following to be sent to the install shop: fuel pump, radiator, water pump,
thermostat, flywheel, fuel filter, ignition lock cylinder.
******* **** and B&A Engine Works worked out a deal to
keep the additional labor affordable.
They charged $750 to do the additional labor – which was NOT passed
through to **** but instead covered entirely by B&A Engine Works. ******* **** also charged $850 to reinstall
the engine – and that fee was also not passed through to **** but was covered
by B&A Engine Works.
**** took advantage of B&A’s desire to help him out and
get him a rebuilt and installed engine and still had the audacity to
complain.
******* **** ran into many issues installing ******
engine. One of the most drastic being
that ****** wiring harness had sustained significant damage and would not
operate the fuel pump (or was not delivering fuel to the rebuilt engine). B&A explained this to **** and his
response was “well then you need to fix it.”
(**** began making unrealistic demands of B&A Engine Works).
**** provided that he wanted work to stop on his truck and
he wanted it returned to his residence.
B&A explained that excessive towing was not in B&A’s capacity
and that these additional services were putting a strain on the business. However on 6-10-25, we told him we would make
our best effort to have it towed back to his residence. B&A put in a tow order for the S-10 for
after-hours movement. The following morning,
B&A employees arrived to see ****** S-10 at the B&A Engine Works
machine shop. It was delivered to the
shop in error. The following day, after
additional arrangements with the towing company, we were able to get the
vehicle to ****** residence.
**** then went online and provided a 1 star Google review,
asked his mother and sister to do the same, without any description.
Following that, **** came into the B&A Engine Works shop
and blackmailed the staff. He provided
that he would remove the multiple 1 star reviews if we would go pick his truck
back up, send it to another shop and pay to have a new wiring harness put in
the vehicle. Standing in the B&A
lobby, he texted his mother and told her to remove her 1-star review. **** looked at B&A staff and said “that’s
good faith right there. I’ll remove the
others when you fix my truck.”
B&A found a shop that would work on ****** wiring;
however, when **** was informed that B&A would not cover the bill, all
1-star reviews went back up on B&A’s Google platform and the BBB was
contacted, in addition to social media harassment.
I have attached **** Pepples’ invoice, contact statement
forms and any other relevant information we have on file.
**** purchased AN ENGINE REBUILD. **** received an ENGINE REBUILD. The engine was observed in the shop as a
RUNNING engine. To have an operational
vehicle, many components must work together in harmony with one another. An engine rebuild does not guarantee a “running
and driving vehicle”. B&A Engine
Works was only hired to BUILD the engine – internal repair. B&A Engine Works does not perform ANY
other types of automotive work. We have
a specialty area – ENGINES ONLY, and all engines that come into B&A Engine
Works must be extracted from the vehicle, as we are not set-up as a mechanic
shop. B&A Engine Works
remanufactures engines. That’s it.Customer Answer

Complaint: ********
I am rejecting this response because:
I did not blackmail said business, and I was patient. The truck was not delivered in error. The tow truck driver informed me they requested my truck be brought to them, ******** ****** ************.When the April 20,2025 deadline approached I requested my truck be taken to my mechanic, whom I trust. But it was taken to another "friend" of theirs. I request a full refund or then to pay to have my truck up and running from my trusted mechanic.
Sincerely,
**** ******Business Response

B&A will not engage in a “he said – she said” with the
Customer.
Nowhere in the invoiced services did **** pay for *diagnostics
into why the truck does not run, a new wiring harness, or repair of his current
wiring harness, or labor involved in servicing the vehicle to “running and
driving condition”. Additionally, the installation
of said engine was not added to the invoice.
This was a courtesy provided to ****.
B&A acted in good-faith with **** Pepple; however, the
customer continuously wanted more.
Including, services that B&A Engine Works does not offer.
