1 starThis review is intended to forewarn potential buyers with my experience with James and James.
We ordered a console table in December 2021 and have not received the table as of today.
The company attempted to send us 2 tables and they arrived either defective or damaged. The first table was defective as the table legs could not attach to the table. The bolt holes in the table legs did not align with those in the bottom of the table. The the bolt holes were not close to aligning. The measurements were off nearly 1/2”. The table was clearly not test assembled or quality checked before being shipped.
The first table was also not built as advertised. The product page description clearly stated the table was built to be anchored to the floor and the photos depicted a table with holes at the base of each table leg. The table we received did not have the required holes. They denied this and immediately updated the product page photos and description on the website.
After they refused for weeks, they attempted to rebuild and send us a new table without any compensation or expediting the process. We waited months for the second table to arrive and it was heavily damaged. The table was cracked and unusable. We later found out their delivery team removed the table from the shipping crate and loaded it in a personal truck to transport it from the local distribution center to our address. James and James confirmed it was not suppose to be removed from the crate.
Overall the company has poor customer service, lacks quality control, and cannot ship/deliver their products reliably. This is not a reputable company that will take responsibility and correct issues they admit were caused by their team.Review fromAbby T

1 starWish I would have seen all of the negative reviews before ordering a table and bench from this company. (All of the positive ones minus a handful are spam) We waited months and got a table that looks nothing like the stain in the photos, the legs don’t look like they match the table, the legs aren’t round, but more of a wide oval shape, the “natural imperfections in the wood” are big sharp knots that could cut fingers that I wouldn’t even use in a project I was making at home. I think this company was probably great at one point and is now quantity over quality. Part of the bench was missing stain and they blamed it on transit which is impossible because you would still see stain in the cracks and there is no stain in the cracks either. Their “making this right” was taking $150 off and told me to take it to a shop to get it sanded and refinished in the spots where it’s sharp. I can’t think of a single place that would do it for that cheap plus transit? We would have to disassemble, transport it, wait, transport it back, reassemble, etc. for $150? Not to mention the absolute inconvenience of spending that much money to get a project piece. They also wanted to send me a touch up kit to use on it, a literal brand new table. Zero accountability in this company. They kept saying it was natural. I hate leaving a bad review for a small business, but by reading the other reviews this seems very common practice for them. I was so excited about this table. Definitely not worth the price for the quality. Overall not an even stain and looks nothing like the quality of the photos online, but a severely discounted version of the photos online.Review fromMary I

4 starsI have been meaning to do a follow up for my review from Sep of last year. When I posted my review on another site, they contacted me to resolve my issue. It took awhile. But, we came to an agreement and resolution for the product I was given. I ended up getting a refund. The 4 stars are because for what I paid I felt this was an appropriate rating.Review fromPatrizia W

2 starsI received the Olivia table with a lot of gray color in the legs and a Harvest Wheat top. If you look at the Olivia table, it's all about the legs, they're beautiful, turned legs. It's normal to want them in the color you ordered, to match the tabletop, right?
I was told I don't know how to appreciate handmade, wood furniture as "variations" are normal. "Unique grain pattern and slight color variation," yes. No gray color at all visible on the tabletop, with mostly gray toned legs, NO! I wanted a natural wood toned table AND legs, that's why I orderd the Harvest Wheat finish. Their website photos show a uniform color from table top to table legs.
Had I wanted a mostly gray color, I would've orderd their Barnwood finish. This is not a slight imperfection, it's more like a mistake. My table legs look like they erroneously received a coat of gray color. The tabletop however, is the Harvest Wheat color as shown on their website - no tinge of gray is visible on top. The company A) Insulted my intelligence & B) Sent their disclaimer list a 2nd time, as if I hadn't read it carefully enough the 1st time.
A waste of time/energy trying to get anywhere with them! Hope this isn't the norm. I want to warn consumers. You may not receive legs that match your tabletop in color. If that matters to you, don't purchase James + James because according to them, it's normal if they don't match.
I love the table, imperfections of real hardwood furniture. However, I'm very unhappy with mostly gray, cool-toned table legs under a Harvest Wheat, warm-toned table top. It looks odd to say the least. For the money, I expect better craftmanship than this and much better customer service.
I have yet to purchase chairs to go with this table as I wasn't 100% sure about which style/color of chair I liked best. Needless to say, I will not be purchasing my chairs from James + James as I cannot trust that they will arrive in the right color. I'm not willing to take a gamble on six charis.Review fromJan T

1 starTerrible customer service. Don’t accept any responsibility for the furniture one it leaves their warehouse. Mine was damaged and I did not sign for it and was not allowed time to examine it by the driver. They drop and leave. Still for some reason James will not file a claim with the shipping company. So where does that leave me! Do not recommend this company. Wish I would have read all the bad reviews first as there are many!Review fromJackie M

1 starI ordered the Arthur round table in Maplewood and a harvest wheat finish. I received the wrong stain. James and James is refusing to fix this issue and claims that this is a variation of what I ordered. So you can order a black stain and possibly get a brown stain or white stain or orange stain and they will claim it is simply a variation. The base is not secured to the table top. I received the base and table top separately in the same delivery, but they were not secured to one another so right now the table wobbles I can simply remove the table top from the base. I can spin the table top. Again they are not secured to one another . James and James is refusing to give me instructions on how to properly secure it. Peyton who has been “helping” me, has no idea how to help me. She has been no help what so ever.
This is a very disappointing purchase. And the sad thing is I ordered two tables from them. The first arrived cracked and they didn’t bother to fix it. I have yet to hear from anyone to fix either table! Run away from this company.Review fromJmrock1

1 starWorst experience I’ve ever had with a company. I paid thousands of dollars for a table…. In August, it’s now December! Please run from this company! Unless you’re ok with offering then after you order, there’s a delay, which happens. They already had a long lead time. Spoke to them and was told Id have my table end of November early December and still no table. Not one person sent an update after the initial delay email and since then I’ve had to contact them, only getting excuses now it’s the delivery companies fault and it should be there… or maybe you need to complete orders on time and tell your customers the truth about shipping. Shipping company said it’s anywhere from 2-4 weeks and when they are “in the area” they’d set up a delivery. No communication from and I have to track people down…. Save yourself the trouble, order from a company that actually get you your product and give you updates. If I could I would have cancelled months ago!Review fromAnnette B.

1 starI ordered the Heirloom dining table and 4 chairs back in May 2022. Finally received my furniture the end of August 2022. This table is horrible quality. The table has scratches all along the edges. Areas where the stain did not color. The top you can see dents where knot holes were filled improperly. The chairs came all in pieces not just the legs. The chairs are made in Chine and are such poor quality. You could buy these in Walmart. The screw holes are so bad the screws would not go in.
I contacted James and James and sent them pictures. They requested more pictures from different angles. They suggested I wash the table with soap and water to see if the scratches would come off.
I went round and round with their customer service with no solution.
I finally hired a furniture restorer who spent several hours repairing my table and putting the chairs together.
The only time Customer service wanted to work with me was to compensate me when I told them I was going to post a review. I did not get compensated. They went dead after the last email.
Stay away from this horrible company. If you are looking for American hand made quality furniture shop at ***** ***** or ****** and ****** carries a Line of Furniture built by the Amish.Review fromMary I

1 starWe ordered a dining room table. They had 4 months to build it. Which, was way more time than their build time frame. They lacked 2 days taking 6 months. They are really good about returning calls when they want to sell you something. Once, they have your money. You have to continue to call them. The table turned out to be a teetertotter. Because, the apron was 1/8" off when you put the two sides together. There is also a gap where you can see the floor between the 2 pieces due to the apron. We had to put felt spacers under 2 of the legs. The finish on the top is awesome. However, the finish ran down the sides of the top. The final thing was. There was no hardware to put it together. We got to go to the hardware store and buy some. Also, they don't know or want to know how sales tax work. They overcharged us over $200. Had to jump through hoops to get the refund. Oh, and you can't talk to an owner or anyone in charge. The reason it took almost 6 months. One time they said the table had already been delivered. Another, they had to re stain it. Had to "rebuild" half the table another time. They also state they put the table together and make sure its made properly. If they did, they should be ashamed. We did get our "thank you" gift right on time, ironically. The moral. The table still stands and holds dinner plates. Execution is not so great.Review fromKimberly D

1 starWe waited several months for the supposedly, artisan, made to order, hand-crafted farmhouse table. Upon assembly, it was obvious the table legs measured different lengths. You would think there would be some type of quality control for a critical component like the legs of a built to order table.
Clearly, they don't care about quality and workmanship as we appear to be stuck with a table that wobbles worse than anything I have ever seen. One table leg is .25" longer than two other legs and the last leg is .16" longer than two shorter legs.
Upon assembly and before the assemblers left our home, we called James and James and requested to deny the delivery, and we were informed that denying delivery was not possible and that we were required to accept delivery and just note on the form our concerns.
Even after following up repeatedly with their online customer service and including videos and a picture. My husband had to take the table apart and measure each table leg as proof that the legs were improperly made for this table. I was told they would be checking into it, " to ensure there was nothing out of the ordinary". Does this mean that shipping poorly made furniture is the ordinary/customary status for James and James? It appears this is the case. This business does not operate as advertised. The table is worthless.
