There has been several transactions with this business to complete home remodeling which I have paid $16,600 of the $18,400 quoted and invoiced job I hired this business to complete. The first transaction occurred 12/31/24, the second transactions occurred 1/18/25 and 1/19/25, and the last transaction occurred 2/7/25. I have paid him $16,600 out of the $18,400 invoice.
Business committed to a home remodel which includes: materials and labor for painting walls and ceilings 3 bedrooms, kitchen, and living room, building and installing 5 inch crown molding for 3 bedrooms kitchen living-room hallway with bathroom, rip out closets in 2 bedrooms, drywall for wall of ripped out closets plus painting, building and installing a custom oak bookshelf in 1 bedroom, materials and installing wood plank flooring in 3 bedrooms. Installing ceiling fans in 3 bedrooms and living room.
The complaint is for non-completion of the remodel with only 1 room out 100% completed, negligence for the projects that have been worked on, not building or installing the custom bookshelf (owner says bookshelf is built located in his shop telling me he got it from **** not custom built), and damage to my property.
The business owner becomes defensive any time I have complained about work not completed, negligence of work, and damage to my property. The last signed agreement put the due date for the business to complete it on 3/21/25. The last in person communication was 3/19/25 in which the owner yelled at me telling me he would paint my wall any color he wanted it to be, and I told him to leave my property or I would call the police. I attempted to resolve the matter 3/19/25 so the job would be completed by the due date and the owner told me if I contacted him again it would be considered harassment.
The business has a website with false advertising for the amount of years in service (states 1981 but BBB site states 16 years). The business is advertised on ******* **** too.

Correction I meant to the contractor instead of owner as I was referring to the owner of NEA Home Improvement. Also, the contractor is not allowed on my property because of threats made to me and to my property.

      Business Response

      Date: 03/29/2025

Okay, here's the revised draft including the information about the outstanding balance:
      Subject: Re: Complaint ID ******** - ***** ***********
      Dear Better Business Bureau,
NEA Home Improvements is responding to the complaint filed by *** ***** *********** (Complaint ID: ********). We respectfully disagree with several of the assertions made in her complaint and would like to provide our perspective on the situation.
Regarding the claim of negligence and damage to property, specifically concerning paint and drywall mud on the floor, we want to clarify that this was easily removed and there was no lasting damage to the floor. Any issues that may have occurred with the floors were, in part, due to the actions of employees who were subsequently terminated during the course of the project. We addressed these internal issues promptly to ensure the quality of our work moving forward. In a phone conversation with *** ***********, I personally assured her that if any actual damage had occurred, NEA Home Improvements would have taken responsibility for replacing the affected flooring.
Despite *** *********** indicating that she no longer wanted our company on her property, NEA Home Improvements remained committed to completing the contracted work. To ensure the project's finalization, I personally arranged for another contractor to complete the remaining task, the installation of the already fully built shelf. This contractor has been coordinating with me to ensure the work is done. We also have photographic evidence of the substantial completed work, demonstrating the high quality and craftsmanship provided throughout the majority of this project.
The payment of $16,600 has been received towards the total contract price of $18,400, leaving an outstanding balance of $1,800 on this project. This remaining balance further underscores the significant amount of work that has been successfully completed. The only outstanding item is the shelf installation, which was planned as the final step.
NEA Home Improvements takes pride in our customer service and the quality of our work. Throughout this project, we provided *** *********** with several discounts. We believed we were acting in a fair and courteous manner. We are therefore surprised and disappointed by this complaint and the demand for a full refund, especially considering the near completion of the project, the quality of the work already delivered (particularly after addressing issues caused by former employees), and the outstanding balance that remains unpaid.
While we cannot speculate on *** ***********'s motivations for this complaint, we firmly believe that a full refund is unwarranted given the substantial work completed, the fact that there was no lasting damage to her property (any temporary issues being linked to former employees), our ongoing efforts to finalize the remaining task despite her request for us to cease work on her property, and the fact that there is still an outstanding balance owed to NEA Home Improvements.
We are still willing to ensure the final shelf installation is completed promptly through the contractor we have engaged.
We respectfully request the BBB to consider our response, the significant work already completed, the fact that there was no lasting damage to the floor (with any temporary issues stemming from former employees), our continued commitment to finishing the project, and the outstanding balance when evaluating this complaint. There is an outstanding balance on this project.
      Sincerely,
      NEA Home Improvements

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

I dispute any outstanding balances from *** ****** as I have receipts and bank statements to prove he has been paid in full, although the work I have paid for and damages to my property have yet to be completed by *** ******. I have attached an invoice for my refund request since I forgot to attach it in my original complaint. I have also attached a receipt for another payment made on 3/28/25 along with a text message sent from *** ****** to his employee *** *** ****** on 3/28/25 stating an agreement for me to pay $1494.00 to pay *** ****** *or his labor cost since *** ****** stated he could not pay him again for the 2nd week in a row. This text message exchange shows *** ****** agreed that the $1494.00 would be deducted from my balance. Both *** ****** and myself have a copy each of the receipt and signed and dated by both of us.

I have also attached 2 emails from *** ****** to myself from 3/31/25. *** ****** emailed me 2 harassing emails angry over my filing this BBB complaint denying my right to allow the BBB to help us negotiate a reasonable resolution. I have also attached my response to his first email harassment from 3/31/25 along with a request that anymore correspondence from him directly would be considered further harassment. *** ****** sent me his 2nd email from 3/31/25 with intentions of coercion by influencing me and pressuring me to agree to his falsified new invoice sent on 3/31/25 or he would sue me in court. This is further intimidation and harassment by *** ******.

On 3/19/25 *** ****** threatened my property and screamed and yelled at me. I demanded he leave my property, or I would call the police. The next day I received harassing text messages from *** ******. *** ****** has used harassment towards me numerous times when I have confronted him about the above claims. *** ****** made threats to enter my property illegally to take back down installed crown molding in my hallway. *** ****** harassed me stating he would use whatever paint he wanted despite me explaining I bought my own paint (because I wanted better quality) and threatening to charge me more money if I didn’t use the paint he was going to provide. This led to the 3/19/25 altercation. *** ****** claims he has a recording of the altercation. The recording he has if there is one is direct after he yelled, screamed, and made threats waking and scaring up my 15-year-old son. I demanded firmly that he leave me property and never return, or I would call the police. If *** ****** would like to share this video, I invite him to share it so others can decide who was frightened and fearful that night as I stood outside on the phone ready to dial 911 because he would not get his tools and leave.

*** ****** claims he is a respectable and ethical business owner. I have plenty of evidence I have already provided to dispute that claim, and I have more evidence to prove he is unethical, unprofessional, and disrespectful. *** ****** has used tactics to try and intimidate me into silence. I feel as a consumer it is my responsibility to file a complaint against NEA Home Improvements to warn them about *** ******’s business practices.

I am seeking a refund for the following:
Built-In Wall to Ceiling Custom Oak Bookshelf  $5000.00
      Security System Damage  $500.00
Damage to Antique Piano (scratches, nicks, paint) $1000.00
      Damage to Oak Kitchen Cabinets
      & Countertop from Paint $150.00
      INT Paint for Trim
Mop to clean up paint damage on floor $85.66
      Ceiling Paint with supplies $135.34
Labor Cost paid to *** ****** on 2/28/25 $1494.00 (if *** ****** continues to dispute this payment made on 3/28/25 from ** ***********)
Materials and Rubbish for removal $200.00
      Total Amount Due $8565.00

      Sincerely,

      ***** ***********

      Dear *** ***********,

Thank you for your response and for sharing your perspective on the matter. I would like to clarify our position regarding the outstanding balance and the situation at hand.

It is important to note that the issues raised in your invoice and the request for repairs coincided with the discovery of the outstanding balance related to your project. We believe this context is significant in understanding the current dispute.

To move forward constructively, we are willing to drop all outstanding balances associated with your project in exchange for a signed settlement agreement. This agreement would ensure that both parties can put this matter behind us amicably.

Furthermore, I want to reiterate that any previous communications from my side were not intended to cause harm or harassment. Our goal has always been to resolve any misunderstandings and to complete the work to your satisfaction.

If you are open to this settlement, I would be happy to draft a formal agreement for both of us to review. I believe this approach could help us reach a mutually beneficial resolution and restore a professional relationship.

Please let me know your thoughts on this proposal, and I look forward to your response.

      Sincerely,
      NEA Home Improvements

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

I chose to work through towards a resolution through the BBB because I believe in justice for any entity (business or individual) that causes harm to another individual. I have already submitted evidence and explained the financial and emotional damage NEA Home Improvements has caused upon my family and myself. Therefore, I will not reilliate the proof that I do not have an outs standing balance with NEA Home Improvements as of 3/23/25 balance was paid in full. I have already submitted evidence that the last invoice from NEA Home Improvements is alleged fraudulent and I am willing to have a court of law decide if the owner of NEA Home Improvements is subject to investigation due to unlawful and possible fraudulent practices.

At this time I am not seeking emotional damage restitution at this time since I chose to negotiate through the BBB as a first attempt to seek the financial recovery for property damage and deceptive by thief for work paid for that was not received. However, my family and I have experienced emotional damage from NEA Home Improvement including health issues I am now being treated for which I have never experienced before the experience I endured from NEA Home Improvements. This has been documented by my PCP and a specialist.

What I am seeking is restitution for damages to my property and restitution for work paid for services NEA Home Improvements did not fulfill as stated in the contract and agreements. I am willing to negotiate the amount NEA Home Improvements owes me. If NEA Home Improvements accepts the opportunity to negotiate, then I will draw up my own agreement for NEA Home Improvements to sign. The decision to have my own parties draw up an agreement is due to the bad faith business practices and harassment I have received from NEA Home Improvements. Whether or not NEA Home Improvements intended to harass me and my family is not the point. Intent or not, no entity has the right to harass another individual and is subject to possible investigation if I choose to seek criminal charges. I have chosen at this point to attempt a resolution from what I experienced by the financial victimization financially and harassment victimization by NEA Home Improvements by seeking compensation through negotiating with NEA Home Improvement through the BBB and warn the public of the bad practices of NEA Home Improvements on the BBB site, as is my right as an innocent consumer.

I have submitted a video recording of the encounter on 2/19/25 in which I banned the owner of NEA Home Improvements. The owner was fully aware that my front door has a camera recording and movement detected. In this recording, the owner of NEA Home Improvements walks out from my house after yelling and threatening to “do what ever he wanted to my walls,” and on my front porch he bends down and whispers calling me an explicit name. When I walk out, the owner of NEA Home Improvements argued with me after I tell him to leave my property or I am calling the authorities. As the owner walks away, he is on his phone and tells someone “she better learn who she is dealing with or else.” It is this point that I ask him what he said. The recording ends at that point due to time limits on my camera.

I have also included a text exchange between the owner of NEA Home Improvements and an employee. In this text exchange the owner NEA Home Improvements calls me another explicit name.

It is for these all of these reasons that I reject the last offer from NEA Home Improvements to be the responsible party for writing the agreement. I have proved a plethora of examples and evidence in this response along with my previous responses showing not only the irresponsible actions from NEA Home Improvements, but also the questionable ethical and alleged unlawful business practices by NEA Home Improvements. If NEA wants to negotiate the of restitution owed to me then I will have an agreement completed. The agreement will also include a statement that the Owner will not be allowed to contact me directly in any form including, but not limited to, in person, over the phone, text messages, and email once the agreement is signed.

      Sincerely,

      ***** ***********
