To Whom it may concern, On June 10th 2020, a vehicle that I had a loan on through Maumee Valley Credit union was struck while sitting in a parking lot and totaled. At that point my insurance company decided that this was a total loss case. I had GAP insurance through Allied Solutions, and thought that was the end of this. I did not make a payment on my loan in June 2020, but then found out later that the credit union reported to the credit union that I was 30 days late on a payment on my loan in June 2020. I asked them to take that off of my credit report, and they did. Six months later, in December of 2020, the Credit union told me that I still owned $1351.76, and sent me a copy of a payment work sheet from the Gap insurance company showing that there were still OH state taxes due on the loan. I wasn’t happy that this came up six months later, but I still agreed to pay it. I had discussions with the credit union, my auto insurance company, and the Gap insurance company for the next three months. I finally started to pay off the balance by sending payments when I could. The credit union decided to report two 30-day late payments in the last two months of me paying off the balance; telling me that the loan had never been paid off. All of a sudden, after almost a year from the total loss claim was filed, they are telling me that I am late on my loan payments. Even if they can get away with saying this, they reported me to be 30 days late in June 2021. I paid the balance off before what would have been my payment due date on the original loan of the 27th of each month. There is no way it could have been late in June of 2021. If what they are saying is true, then I should have gotten some sort of communication telling me that this loan was not paid in full with the gap insurance in June of 2020. They didn’t say anything to me until December of 2020. If this loan was never paid off, then why was nothing said to me from June 2020 through November 2020? I went without making payment from June 2020 until March 2021, and now all of a sudden, I’m making late payments?! I’m not sure if this is illegal or not, but I feel that the late payments should be taken off my credit report. I explained to them my situation, telling them that the only late payments I have on my credit report are the two they reported in May and June of this year. I have worked my butt off to get my credit to where it is. I asked them to please show some compassion. I called on the phone and talked to one of the bankers. I told her that I am receiving an offer to relocate to another state for my job, and this may very well affect my wife and I getting a loan for a new house. I said to her, “this could be life changing!” I heard her snort on the other end of the line; as if that was funny to her. There is nothing for the Credit Union to gain by reporting this to the credit agencies. I would hope that there is something that can be done to force them to do the right thing.
