Description

On Friday, May 9, 2025, I was trying to apply for a $1,000 loan or line of credit. I received a text message at around 2:46 pm EST saying, hello, my name, and asking me how I was. I asked who they were and after no response blocked them. Tuen they left me a voicemail so I called them back. The gentleman that called me said that my loan was approved, asked me to verify a bunch of information including my SSN and bank account information. Then he said he would call me back after things were processed. I then get an email from a Gmail account with a loan agreement asking me to review, sign, and send back with my drivers license. I did that, then he calls me asking me to go to a CVS, Walgreens, or Dollar General store and purchase gift cards like Sephora or Game Stop. He told me he would deposit money to cover taxes and fees because money was being transferred from Texas to Michigan. I went to a CVS and told him what cards were available and he asked me to purchase two Xbox gift cards, one for $250, and the other for $230. He told me that the remaing amount was mine to use for the inconvenience. He then asked me to text him the numbers off the gift cards as well as the receipt which I did. Once he "verified" that the money was on the gift cards he told me that the $1,000 would be released into my account that night. He asked me to let him know whether or not I got the money. I didn’t so on Saturday, May 10th he called me at 9:00 am EST and asked me to do the same thing. He deposited more money into my account to cover the taxes and fees and asked me to again buy a gift card. I bought an Apple gift card for $450 and again texted him the gift card information and receipt. Again, the $1,000 never loaded into my account. This morning, Sunday, May 11th, I texted him saying this was a scam. I also left him a voicemail saying the same thing. Then I proceeded to report the company to the FTC. I also changed my banking login information and called Apple to report the gift card scam to them and gave them the serial number from that gift card. I'm having trouble contacting Xbox to report the two gift cards I was asked to purchase on May 9th. He just tried calling me several times this morning and he texted me telling me that it wasn't a scam, but I didn’t respond or answer his calls.
