This content is based on victim and potential victim accounts. Government agencies and legitimate business names and phone numbers are often used by scam artists to take advantage of people.
I ordered a product on Amazon. After the order a text message appeared on the website stating my account was placed on hold and advised me to call 833-656-9199 which I did. I was told someone had ordered 2 gift cards and asked if it was me. I said no. They asked me to enter several areas of settings which I did. I later discovered they then had access to my computer. They then showed me a photo that showed several of my credit cards and my bank account showing the last 4 numbers of those accounts. I questioned if this was a scam. They told me Amazon never calls customers and I called them which I did call the number I was given. They then asked me to open my bank account. I immediately ended the call. I checked with my bank account and my credit card company and was told I had no charges and that I was right it was a scam. I then changed all my passwords and deleted all credit card information from all on line accounts as I was advised to do by the credit card company. It is a pain to have to enter the information every time you place an order, but it is too risky to be scammed if you leave it on line. I hope this helps others to avoid this issue.
