After doing a Google search for passport renewal online, I was directed to a website that (I realized too late) was impersonating a government site, but was in fact NOT a legit government site. They asked for personal identifying information (address, parents names, SSN, etc.) which I stupidly provided, and then charged $88 to process the application. I didn't realize until I went to print the application at work that the fee I paid was NOT the actual renewal fee, as the instructions told me to include a check or money order when I mailed the form and previous passport to the processing center.
