We received a letter that APPEARED to be from our initial mortgage processor stating that we needed to extend our home warranty. Our initial mortgage processor handed our mortgage off to another company, and we still have our builder warranty, but my husband called anyway. The individual claimed to be a part of Presidential Bank. Marissa at extension 327 is who we spoke to. She offered another number to call her directly at 888-421-5994. She pretty much was trying to sell us a home warranty plan. Initially for $4.7k and then dropped it to $3.8k when she found out my husband was military. I asked her questions about the coverage and then went over with my husband that we still have our builder warranty until the end of this year (over 6 months left) and that it's really pointless to pay for a warranty that's only going to last until 2028 at this point until our builder warranty ends. My husband honestly didn't want the warranty, and so he tried to say he just couldn't afford the coverage (because he can't just say no, and usually if you don't have money, they just end the conversation. Which was his goal.) SO that doesn't work, she rebuttals, and he asks for me to hop on the line. I ask her again what the coverages were, the payments, and then broke down the cost that would overlap our already existing builder warranty. This is when she started to rebut me and say if I ended the call, I'd never be able to receive this coverage again, to which I made a valid point that I can purchase a home warranty from anywhere; it doesn't have to be from them. However, this is when she doubled down that she was a part of Presidential, and she was a first party, and she offered the best coverage, and if I'm too broke for it, to just say that. This started a whole argument because, again, it was about the fact we were having overlapping warranties. She started laughing and told me to get off her phone, to which I said I wasn't and she can't tell me what to do. I told her she was becoming unprofessional at the seams, and it's just an awful look. She knew she wasn't getting me off the phone, so she put me on hold. Which was fine; at this point I wanted to eat her time. I started looking back through the letter, and that's when I saw it! At the very bottom, in the smallest of fonts, there's a line that says, "Not all consumers have previous coverage. Home Protection USA is not affiliated with your current mortgage holder. Florida License G008408. So I start having my huband look that up, she comes back on the line and demands my card, I told her no, I'm only there to eat her time. I wanted to speak to her manager to which she claims she was the manager. I started laughing and told her that unless she was ******* **** **** **** ***** ain't no way in heck she's a manager because she is the definition of unprofessional. She claims that I would attempt insurance fraud, and that's why they need a down payment of $295 to start the warranty, and I can just cancel if I don't want it after 30 days. I said, "What are you talking about, insurance fraud?! I'm not bent on the down payment; I'm bent on the overlapping warranty." So she starts laughing, calling me broke. Again, all fine- I want to eat her time. The more time she's on the phone with me, the less commission she's making with someone else's call. She puts me on hold again. My husband, through all of that, found that Home Protection USA is NOT affiliated with our bank. When she came back on the line, she was quiet and heard me say, "She was posing as someone from the bank, and she's not." That's when she hung up. So, just read the letters, even the small font at the bottom. This letter was signed by Andy Perkins, but this is totally a scam. If they get nasty when you start rebutting them, it's a scam. Just eat their time. They won't hang up because they believe they can bully you into paying. Don't let them, you can get home warranties from any company you choose. Last thing to note, I've been trying to find their business through their license number and as of yet- I can't find it so it looks like this is a whole illegal operation.
