Academia edu masquerades as a respectable research outlet. In fact, it is a serial scammer with thousands of complaints lodged against them for outright theft. I found this out after paying $5 for an article. Before they were finished with my card, they had processed first $159 and then $499 without my permission or knowlege. My bank is right now in the process of a 'fraud complaint' and refund. But thousands of victims have not been so lucky. I wondered how for years they would send me emails pretending my 'business' was mentioned in a research paper. This is how they draw people in.. to find out what sort of mention is made. It's all a lie. Once you pay a meager amount to use their research papers at all, the card processing never ends.
