Scam information

This content is based on victim and potential victim accounts. Government agencies and legitimate business names and phone numbers are often used by scam artists to take advantage of people.

Description

I received an email from a job I do not remember applying to for Data Entry Clerk. I visited the website and everything seemed to match. I was asked to complete an assessment by an "HR assistant" named Sarah Hopkins. After a very short assessment process and no interview, I received an offer letter, stating I would be RECEIVING A CHECK IN THE MAIL FOR THE PURPOSES OF PURCHASING A "MANDATORY SOFTWARE LICENSE." This was the first red flag because a job should never be sending you a check for mobile deposit. I researched further on Reddit and it turns out, other people have experienced the same occurrence. They received offer letters written verbatim with the exact same description. It is a scam in which they post as legitimate companies and expect you to deposit a check.
