Description
The scammer approached my mother on the social media platform TikTok after she posted about losing her job in November. They used a fake job recruiter who happened to be "leaving" the company. The recruiter messaged my mom, asking if she was looking for high-paying remote jobs. She then got my mom in contact with Robert from the company Synapse Synergy who was looking for employees. They gave a brief job description. Jen, the recruiter, told her was completely legit work but things started to get fishy. They interviewed by text with an interview code. Robert gave the interview asking basic questions and if she would be able to do the job accordingly. He then told her that if she were to get hired during training she would get paid 35 an hour and after training it would go up to 45 an hour. He then asked her to send her resume through email so he could review it. They asked what means of payment and the bank she used. They also asked if she had any credit card debt. She had to wait 30 minutes to know if she was hired or not. They "hired" her and then asked for her social security number and pictures of her driver's license through email. They told her they would send the tech needed for the position but they would need her bank information to either send a direct deposit or check so that she could buy it. They then sent a W4 form that showed the wrong hiring date. It was May 6th, 2023 even though the tax form was 2025. After she realized it was a scam, she told them she was going to have the form checked out to make sure its not a scam they then terminated her almost immediately after.
