Description

Will Smiley who started out saying he was with Odyssey Group, is the name of the person I spoke with on the phone and chatted with via TEAMS, he is a very clever person but talked in circles around important questions I asked him about, there were many inconsistencies in what was said. He chatted with me about the position and after answering some questions related to the Customer Service Rep job, he offered it to me and let me know someone would be emailing me the job proposal (which was really too good to be true). In the email there was a form that asked for my routing # for the payroll direct deposits, another form that asked for my SS# and he also said I would need to send a picture of my license. I contacted Odyssey Group (which is a legit company) that does re-insurance for large businesses and found out they were not hiring for any Customer Service positions and didn't even have that type of department in their company. After talking with him on the phone and chatting with him on TEAMS to let him know what I had found out, he said he was actually with Odyssey Therapeutics and was doing some consulting work that was confidential with Odyssey Group that was an affiliate to Odyssey Therapeutics, (that I found out was not true), to hire 16 people in my hometown which sounded very wrong! I was given the address of the location and drove there to find a vacant lot. After talking with the City Planner, I found out there was going to be an apartment building along with retail space for maybe a restaurant built there, but there wasn't any zoning for commercial office space. I let Will Smiley know what I was told by the planner, but he just said again there was going to be space in the building for 16 employees. I told him there were too many inconsistencies in what he was telling me and asked him to have a face to face conversation with me on TEAMS, he told me "sure he would call me on the phone", and I told him that I wanted to do a face to face, (since they do have a picture of Will Smiley on the Odyssey Therapeutics website I knew what he looked like), he told me he wasn't able to do that only chat on TEAMS or call me, which is when I told him I wasn't interested in the position. The conversation I had with him went off and on for a couple of days and as I said he was very clever, I knew it was a scam after talking with the person at Odyssey Group but wanted to see how far he would actually go!!
