Description
A few weeks ago, my father received a phone call from someone that claimed to work in his doctor's office, and the number that read out on his caller ID was in fact the physician's number. It was NOT them though. The person somehow knew that my father had back and knee problems, so they said that his doctor was going to send him a back brace and knee brace. (However, he has never even discussed these orthopedic problems with his family physician.) They said they just needed his medicare number. Unfortunately, he fell for that. The person on the phone said "no charge to you". Several days later, two boxes arrived at my dad's house with a knee brace and back brace. There was a paper inside for him to sign and send back, agreeing that the "company" would charge Medicare first and then his secondary insurance if Medicare didn't cover it. The same (foreign speaking) lady has now called my parents multiple times every day since to see if they got the equipment and will send back the paperwork. We've asked them to stop calling, lied and said my dad moved out (HA!!) , and finally blocked them today. Unfortunately, the number they were using was in fact somehow the same as the office number for his physician.... so then we had to call the doctor's office and give them an alternate contact number for my father. The family practice/physician said this is absolutely a scam and they have never heard of the companies listed on the boxes that arrived at my Dad's home. Those companies were Vive Health - Online Medical Equipment and Supplies, Iconic Medical Supplies, and Speedy Medical Supply. This has cost us a lot of time and energy, and we can only hope that nothing more comes of these "mystery people" having my Dad's medicare number.
