Scam information

This content is based on victim and potential victim accounts. Government agencies and legitimate business names and phone numbers are often used by scam artists to take advantage of people.

Description

Local photographer (Accredited Business) contacted BBB to share scam experience. Was texted by an individual ('Wallace S,' [email protected]) who said they'd found her business on BBB.org, and was interested in photography services for early March. "Client" went on to explain that was ready to make a 50% down payment with credit card, but would need a "favor" in return. Wanted to overpay by $2,550, and told photographer she'd need to forward the overage to the "event planner" by Cashapp or Zelle, because the event planner "is currently not authorized to accept credit cards." Photographer recognized this as a potential scam and contacted BBB, but had already invested several hours in communicating with the "client," rearranging schedules, etc.
