Description

I was contacted by an individual through the Freelancer platform for a job opportunity, specifically a translation project. The offer seemed legitimate at first, with the person claiming to represent We Work Remotely, a known remote job platform. After some initial communication, the person directed me to use an email address ([email protected]) for further correspondence. I was instructed to complete a translation project, which was described as being high-paying, with promises of a significant payment upon delivery. However, as we continued the discussion, I began to feel uncomfortable with the lack of clear details about the project and the vague nature of the communication. When I inquired further, the person requested that I send the completed work first before receiving payment. At this point, I began to feel suspicious about the situation. Upon further investigation, I realized that the email address and communication were not legitimate. The email address provided was not associated with the official We Work Remotely platform, and after doing some research, I discovered that the account was fraudulent. The individual I was dealing with seemed to be impersonating a real recruiter from We Work Remotely. I am a single mother with a young daughter, and I am actively looking for work in this country. I am currently pursuing a doctoral degree and have limited job opportunities in my home country as a journalist and writer. This experience has been very disheartening, as it was my first time pursuing an opportunity like this, and it was not pleasant. I realized that I had been targeted by a scam, and immediately ceased communication. The individual has since tried to contact me again. I have not responded to any further messages. I have not sent any work or money, but I am concerned that this person may attempt to manipulate or harass me further. I want to ensure that this scam is reported to prevent others from falling victim to it. The email address, project description, and behavior of the individual all raised red flags, and I believe this was a clear case of fraud."
