Description

I have been looking for a job and have my resume posted on indeed and LinkedIn. I received an emeil about a job offer. I was unsure about this being a real job therefore emailed the company to make sure it was a real person and job. The company responded to me and stated it was a legit interview offer. I went ahead with the interview, it was done by teams chat, i thought this was odd but Stay safe inc said it was real. So i moved forward. They offered me the job had me fill out a W9, sign a work agreement, and send in documents like DL and SS Card. Per my new boss I contacted the vendor who would be supplying my work materials; i got an invoice and reached out to my new boss and the accounting team. I was then issued a check to pay for my materials. The check was only half the invoice amount as my bank has a limit to deposit amount. So i deposited the check. The bank held it for 24hours and let it go through. I used some of it to try and pay the vendor by paypal. Paypal was showing that it wouldn't be till june of 2025 that they would get it and it was being paid in a different currency. Well my boss said i could pay with apple gift cards thats when i really started to question it. He was still very professional and messages had great grammar. It took me a few days but i did go ahead a pay using the apple gift cards. Im honestly still on the fence if this is a real thing but honestly its probably not. I have tried many times to contact stay safe inc through emails and call them with no luck. I have even emailed the vendor skyline technologies they dont have a phone number and the address on the invoice is no longer a current address. At this time im not sure what to do. Im not getting any response and im afraid they will use my information. I know the bank held the check but what if it comes back on me. Im sure it will and i just fell right into the trap.
