Scam information

Description

I was contacted via email regarding a job opportunity for a "Front Desk Receptionist" position at a company called "NESC Staffing Solutions." The email itself seemed legitimate but the email address was not ( [email protected] ), as it included details about the job, pay, and benefits, and even instructed me to set up a Microsoft Teams account for an interview. https://teams.live.com/l/invite/FEAwMH-uTfYhcvPlwE on Teams Chat for the job briefing and interview session. During the communication, I was informed that I had been selected for the position and would receive training. The scammer claimed I would receive a check from the company to purchase necessary work materials, which would then be shipped to me. I was told that I needed to buy the materials from a specific vendor, keep the receipts, and provide proof of purchase. The scammer was posing as "Lary O'Keefe, National Account Manager at National Engineering in Portsmouth, New Hampshire." However, after further investigation, I found that the email address used by the scammer was [email protected], while the legitimate email for the real hiring manager is [email protected]. The company's website (https://www.nesc.com/12-signs-job-scams/) also warned about job scams, specifically mentioning the use of fake email addresses and fraudulent checks. The scammer's tactic was to offer a seemingly legitimate job opportunity but used the false promise of sending a check to purchase materials as a way to manipulate me into performing financial transactions. I suspect this is a scam to collect personal information or potentially involve me in money laundering activities. I stopped responding after realizing the red flags, and I want to report this incident to help prevent others from falling victim to similar scams. I am still in contact with the scammer, who continues to send messages about providing paperwork, orientation, and a job offer letter. They instructed me to be online at 8:00 AM tomorrow for additional information about the check to purchase work materials. I plan to save the conversation and send it to the company website. And then I will block him on Microsoft Teams and any further emails sent to me by this individual.
