Description

Jeremy Black is a general contractor and owner of Big Tine construction Llc. in Salt Lake City, we had him come and do an estimate for a renovation project at our home. We agreed on the initial cost of 110,000 dollars which he requested upfront to purchase supplies needed. I.e hvac system including all duct work and supply’s. Windows throughout the main level and basement, flooring throughout both levels, bathrooms, adding a bathroom in basement, new kitchen. (excluding appliances.) lighting and electrical throughout. New front door. New doors and casings throughout, hard wear for new doors. Electrical work I.e changing out old outlets and adding additional plugs, in side and out. Jeremy and big time construction, did minimal work over the last 8 months (march 2024- October 24th 2024) he did not apply for any building permits, he changed plumbing, did electrical, moved walls and added a front porch. We also don’t believe he is licensed to do some of the work he did that was not permitted to be done in the first place. Jeremy Black was given a check for 75,000 before starting and then asked for an additional 60,000 before any work had started. He was given both payments by check which he deposited. I do have copies of both checks. We were made aware on Thursday Oct 24th that he had not gotten any building permits or scheduled inspections. He was leaving town and we did not have any heat in the home. We fired Jeremy that day. We then arranged for the permit and initial inspection done ourselves, which failed inspection due to a leak in the gas and incompletion of the hvac system not having everything required by the city. We are currently working with Riverton city to at least get the heat turned on. We have also retained an attorney and had 3 estimates from other GC’s as it stands now, he has actually cost us more because we now have to correct the few things he did do. Our home is completely demoed, and now all we can do is try and recoup some of the money that he has taken, to fix our home so it is live able.
