Description

Beware of Job Scams: My Experience with a Fake Job Offer - Unibit Hey everyone, I want to share a story about a job scam I almost fell for. It's important to stay alert, especially if you're job hunting online. Here's what happened to me with a company that turned out to be a scam. How It All Started I received an email out of the blue from a company called Unibit Systems Inc. They said they saw my profile on Indeed and thought I'd be a great fit for a remote Customer Service Representative job. It sounded like a fantastic opportunity, so I replied saying I was interested. The Offer Letter They sent me an offer letter, which looked quite professional at first glance. They promised good pay--$1020 per week for full-time and $510 for part-time, even during a trial period. All I needed was a computer and an internet connection. It sounded too good to be true. Red Flags Start Popping Up Different Addresses: The company's website said they were in Markham, Ontario. The email I got mentioned an address in Ottawa. When I checked the Canadian business registry, it showed an address in Vancouver. This was confusing. Why did they have three different addresses? Can't Find Them Online: I tried to find more information about them online. Their online presence was minimal--no proper reviews, no social media profiles, nothing substantial on LinkedIn. A legit company should have some online footprint. Weird Job Offer: Offering high pay for simple tasks during a probation period seemed fishy. Usually, companies don't pay that much unless you've proven yourself. Pressure to Act Fast: They wanted me to sign the offer letter quickly. Scammers often try to rush you so you don't have time to think things through. Digging Deeper I decided to dig deeper. I looked up the address they provided in Ottawa on Google Maps, but it didn't show any relevant business there. I also checked business registries and found a company with a similar name in Vancouver, but with no real online presence.
