Description

I called this number 18003098817 which I found online for "Air Canada ticket name change". I was trying to change the name on my flight ticket that was booked with the incorrect name. I was trying to reach Air Canada who I have phoned previously. Air Canada told me to e-mail them about the change of name on my ticket but since they didn't respond, I decided to call them back today. Doing an on-line search I came across the phone number mentioned here claiming to be the "third party" representative who can assist me with the name change as Air Canada is "receiving a high volume of calls". The scammer tried to scare me by saying that if my name wasn't properly described in my flight ticket I wasn't going to be allowed inside the plane. That I needed to pay $150US each way total of $300US to be able to change the name in my ticket. That if I didn't pay, I was going to be denied boarding as the name in my original ticket is incorrect. He was pushy, ** *** * ****** ****** ******, the communication was not clear. He did have my flight information which anyone can get on-line as I provided him with my confirmation flight #. Since I thought it was truly Air Canada who was on the other line, I provided him with my name, phone number, date of birth and address. He sent me an e-mail which gave me a bad feeling, it wasn't an Air Canada e-mail, it read their company name and I told him this. He wanted me to click on a link and I didn't like that. He wanted me to e-mail him my passport, didn't like that. I told him he was a scam and that I was going to hang up, he was persistent and insisted Air Canada hired them to help them change the name on flight tickets as they are busy. I ended up hanging up. I have that e-mail with me. I called Air Canada the real Air Canada, they confirmed this travel agency is not related to them and that they don't use a third party agency to do any of their work. I called my credit card company and ended up cancelling my credit card. No charge was made to my credit card as I refused to click on any link but still to err on the side of caution, I cancelled my credit card.
