The scammer (calling from 844-225-0024) left this voice mail: “Dear customer, your spectrum account is no longer eligible for the 40 % discount on the monthly bill to reactivate this offer right now . Please call back the number displayed on the caller ID . Thank you you…”. I called and they said my offer is reactivated. However, I qualify for another discount ($25 per month instead of $47 per month for 3 years) based on a promotional deal sponsored by Target. But I would have to pay for one year up front ($300) using a Target pre-paid gift card. After loading the gift card at any major retailer, I would have to call the Spectrum billing department to pay $300. (The billing department number they gave me to call: 866-234-2903 is NOT Spectrum’s actual billing department number). They also offered to mail a bonus $50 Visa pre-paid card to my home if I paid $300 before 8pm on the same day. According to the phone rep, Spectrum’s billing department closes at 8pm. I started to suspect fraud when I checked the sender address on the “invoice” they emailed. It does not match any of the email communications I get from Spectrum and the email itself does not match the usual Spectrum formatting. I should have noticed red flags sooner and fortunately I did not end up buying a Target gift card.
