I received a job invitiation via website messaging. I was asked to apply, so I looked at the job details, answered a few questions online, and viewed a partial presentation about the company. I was contacted via phone after 30 minutes, offering me the position. I was not asked to submit a resume or cover letter, but was hired on the spot via telephone. I was then instructed that there will be two required 8-hour training days, including additional trainings coming up. We were also told that training is unpaid. During the first day of training, the room had mostly post high school students and some college students. I was the only person over the age of 40. This company is a scam. They operate as a pyramid scheme. We were told to create "prospects" by calling our family, friends, parents of friends, church members, family doctors, and so on and so on. We had no choice but to contact our family, and, per the company they expect us to sell. The time we spent during the first day of training, consisted mostly of contacting future prospects. So, this wasn't really training, we were expected to work. Again, we were not paid for working. This company caters to high school students and not so much if you are over 30. I was treated in a condescending manner when I asked questions about pay and why training is unpaid. We were expected to work for Vector Marketing on the first day of training, however, we were never asked to show our ID, Social Security Card, and direct deposit information. We were told that would happen at a "later time." After making a comment about how my mother loves one of their knife sets, but she would never spend that kind of money, things took a different direction in regards to my employment. I received a text message later that evening asking me not to return. I was told that I was not a good fit. So, if you ask questions about pay, lunch breaks, and why training is unpaid---you are terminated and told that "you're not a good fit." We were instructed, encouraged, and basically told that our family and friends must have the money to buy. Otherwise, they are poor and not their kind of customer. If you are poor, they will not select you because you're family can't afford their product. I spent over 6 hours "working" while training, and we were only given two (10) minute breaks and no lunch break. When I asked why we were not getting a lunch break, the manager glared at me and said that we had two breaks, what more could we ask for. They expect you to work for free. They only pay you $20 per demonstration of product, providing the prospect downloads the Vector app on their phone and answer questions. If the customer does not download the app, then you are not paid for the demo. They expect you to work for free. They cater to high school kids because they can easily manipulate and take advantage. They are a total scam.
