Description

Scammer called my cellphone from the "credit card application fraud team" for Capital One from the phone number 1800-955-7070 (which was reported as Capital One on my phone) to verify a "recent application". They provided a phone number to call them back in normal business hours of M-F 8a-10p ET; Sa-Su 8a-5p E at 1855-522-7663, providing an application number. Calling the fraud department directly from the Capital One website yielded no knowledge of any application (which there should not have been) and the person I spoke to was not aware of the phone numbers as being from Capital One.
