Description
Contacted by scammer with a “job opportunity “ ; had stated seen resume on “Career Builder job site.” Stated was for work at home data entry. Scammer Sent offer letter and W-4 form to complete and return. I did not complete the W-4. Scammer Indicated needed to communicate via MS teams app. Company was located in the UK. I phoned the company in the UK and inquired about this job opportunity. The company had no knowledge of the posting and stated the offer letter signature person was not the HR agent as indicated on the letter. I stated to the scammer that I was concerned about the legitimacy of this job offer and requested a phone call to speak directly. He called and stated he was located in NJ, USA and that the company was expanding operations in the USA. Scammer stated the would send a check to obtain necessary software to do the job. Check was received via FedEx for $200 out of San Jose, CA. Looked up routing number from check received from scammer and the number is invalid according to the bank indicated on the check. Check has Not been cashed or deposited. I sent an email to the UK to the person indicated on the offer letter ; have not received a reply yet.
