Google Chrome linked from You Tube channel based in Canada. Message popup ALERT appeared on my PC ...system had been breached: a Microsoft Icon appeared offering emergency technical support. I called the number and a foreign speaking man (Indian accent) proceeded to instruct me to download an app that actually gave him access into my PC. His mannerism became aggressive in asking me to do several actions to which I responded NO: 1) open my email 2) open my online banking website. He manipulated my PC screen at an alarming speed and I told him I was going to contact the police, I asked him why he committed the transgression of removing my desktop data..he responded "because you didn't cooperate". I notified my bank and placed a block on my checking account. I also made an I NEED YOUR HELP phone call to a former job colleague at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and he actually committed 45 mins to help me UNINSTALL the app that the scammer had used. The scammer used a scare approach that hackers were able to gather my data, and my only option was to let him see my system to find traces of a breach. He asked me personal questions--how do I use my PC; do I shop online frequently; would I access my email account and look for something ?; would I visit my banking site to review any recent transactions? He did not like me questioning his actions or asking him to give me more info about the questionable Microsoft Logo that spurned me to call that 888 number.
