Description
I called a number that i thought was AT&T, they had almost the same number as the real AT&T number. They said dial 1 for $100 gift card to talk with agent. I didn't want the gift card but i thought in order to talk with an agent had to dial that. They asked for my name and address, which i gave. Then when they asked for my account info, i knew it was a scam because AT&T already had that. So, i said i didn't have my wallet or know my account info. They said in order to get my gift card that they would mail to me, that i had to pay $4.77 for shipping. Then i said its ok i guess i don't get one. They said they would help with my problem now. I told them that I returned my modem. They didn't even know what kind of modem (Real AT&T) wouldn't ask for that. I told her my AT&T modem. So, i knew for sure she was a scammer. Then she told me that she will transfer me to someone to help me and the call dropped. Before, it dropped she told me if it does that i should call this number. I didn't get to write it down or memorized it because i was walking. So, the only personal info they got was my name and address, thankfully. I am glad i was able to think through her pressuring me to see the red flag about account info, if the reall AT&T has that. The number they used is 1(877)287-1856, the number for AT&T i needed is 1 (844)287-1856. I can see how easy it is to scam people when they change a couple digits in the 800 spot. I believe the woman was of Indian decent i spoke to on the phone. So, maybe the country of origin isn’t USA like I marked off but India. Don’t know.
