I signed up for an online resume service at resume.io so I could create a nicely formatted resume quickly for a job I was applying for. The free 7 day trial was $2.95 which I gladly paid for with my credit card. I was told the subscription would renew automatically unless I cancelled. I accepted this agreement. I started receiving emails and phone calls from TopResume and resume.io about my resume providing feedback and advice which I did not want nor need. I went to TopResume to cancel my subscription and they reported that my email was not registered with them despite receive multiple emails from them. My credit card was double charged each charge being $24.95 for a total of $49.90. I called the number I could find for the company and made it clear that I wanted my subscription cancelled and I wanted the money refunded. They said they would get the next level involved and straighten it out. I heard nothing for 4 weeks until another double charge was put on my card for the same amount. I then reported the charges to my credit card company. I looked a little more closely at the emails and website involved, resume.io, and realized that TopResume is an affiliate of resume.io and I had tried to cancel my subscription for TopResume since they were actively contacting me about my resume. So that mislead me to think they were the company that was charging me the money. I have since cancelled my subscription at resume.io, but I have yet to resolve why I was double charged.
