I was on my Mac laptop and a message came up saying my computer was locked and I needed to call (888) 309-0788 in order to unlock my computer. I spoke with someone who said his name was Nick Snyder with Global Bytes IP Solutions. He sounded Middle Eastern. We were on a call for quite awhile. Approximately 1 1/2 hours. During this time some kind of malware was put on my computer to keep people from getting my data - or so I was told. Then, he told me I needed to pay $509.99. I hesitated but paid via check. He then gave me a couple of numbers I could call if I had any questions: (888)207-4198, (888) 309-0414. I also got an email from [email protected] on 11/17/23 with yet another toll free number: (888) 215-3363. It looks legitimate but I wanted to check it out further since my data may be effected if it is a scam. On 11/22/23 I got a call from the so-called follow up person, who left a voicemail. I didn't pick up when I got the first follow up call but picked up when he called me again. I told him that I thought the whole thing was a scam and hung up. I had Googled the company and saw something about it being a potential scam. This person's name is Joseph Smith. He sounded Middle Eastern as well. (Not that that's weird but both people I spoke with had thick Middle Eastern accents and very Americanized names.) I never thought I'd be a victim of a scam but this seems to look legitimate but the internet has me concerned that this company is a scam.
