Description
Contacted out of the blue by "Phillip Corbett", claiming to be HR Manager for Clarity Innovations, offering the chance to interview for a position in my line of work. I was suspicious but decided to proceed cautiously. The next email was from "Jack Reddy", also an HR Manager (supposedly). It included a PDF with instructions on how to get on Discord for an interview. I created a burner Discord account and joined the interview. The interview was with "Kate Nolly", who claimed to be the Interview Manager for Clarity Innovations. She told me the interview would be text-only, and went through some basic questions before telling me I had to purchase an expensive smartphone for work. I confronted her about a number of inconsistencies I'd seen so far, and she went offline. There were a number of clues that something was wrong. First, the email address used to contact me was from a site called "clarityinnovates.sites", which is neither the correct company name, nor the correct site. "clarityinnovates.sites" is a recently purchased domain on NameCheap with no actual content. Neither Kate, Jack, nor Phillip appear on Clarity Innovations' actual site, or on LinkedIn. They did, however, list the correctly mailing address, so they are definitely impersonating a real business.
