Today at 10 am, I received a call from a person who called himself "Rick Davis" who said I needed to be home to sign for legal documents because I was being sued. He said the documents required my signature. He said I have been "put on notice." He also called several of my family members as well, telling them the same thing. As I do not owe anyone and believed this was a scammer, I was curious and returned the call. I spoke with someone who told me he was recording the line, then said I owed money to a specific bank that I paid off over 14 years ago. He asked questions about my husband as well and asked why our SSN were "mingled together." Number one: a REAL process service company never tells you they are serving you court papers and you need to be there to sign for it. Number two: IF this was true, a debt 14 years old can not be turned over to a collection agency. So I contacted the bank who issued the credit card 20 years ago, and gave them my SSN and they checked my name and said that NO I do NOT owe them any money for any credit card at all. In fact, that card was paid off satisfactory. I called them back and again he told me my call was being recorded. Man was the same guy but identified himself now by a different name (I didn't document his "new" name.) Man was very angry when questioned. Let me note here that the bank who issued the credit card stated that she sees this on a daily basis. Same scam where people identify themselves as a "process server" and she said the legal dept. NEVER has process servers alert the subject prior to serving a summons to appear in court. She herself called this a complete fraud and scam.
