I was recruited through LinkedIn for a contractor marketing role and worked with the company for two months. During that time, I was expected to attend regular online meetings and report my availability through Slack, functioning much like an employee. I was later informed that the company compensated contractors through equity rather than pay, but no formal equity agreement, grant, or documentation was ever provided. Throughout the engagement, I was told that compensation would begin once the company refreshed its website and launched Google ads. Those milestones never occurred, and no concrete payment timeline was given. Due to the lack of compensation, unclear structure, and shifting expectations, I chose to resign.
