Description

Envelope had the following labeling: Stamp area - PRESORTED STANDARD MAIL U.S. POSTAGE PAID PERMIT #5001 Return address area - Personal & Confidential IMPORTANT NOTICE Box next to address - Deliver Directly to Addressee SEE TITLE 18 SEC. 1702--US CODE Inside was a letter printed on yellow paper. Top left was a logo of a torch in a laurel wreath with "Warranty Services Extended Coverage Department" and the address. At the top right is an Owner ID# (presumably assigned to me), their contact phone number, and the text "20XX Vehicle Program Term Deadline XX/XX/20XX" (year of the vehicle that I had just sold, and a date about 3 weeks after the date I received the letter). Then it said "Call to Verify above Information" next to an arrow pointing up and "Read below for more information" next to an arrow pointing down. Below that was the Owner ID# again, "Coverage status: AVAILABLE" and the Program term Deadline again. The letter started IMMEDIATE RESPONSE TO THIS NOTICE REQUESTED before explaining the risk of warranty lapse and outlining the terms of the offered warranty. The only information about the sender was the address at the top left of the letter inside the envelope )not visible for return service while in transit) and the phone number, which appeared 3 times. There is inconsistent capitalization / grammar / punctuation, lack of info on the organization reaching out, a stressing of urgency, and an implication that they are continuing a preexisting relationship with myself as a vehicle owner / consumer. The letter in full reads: "20XX Vehicle Attention: Xxxxxxx Xxxxxxxx Our records indicate that you have not contacted us to have the vehicle service contract for your 20XX Vehicle updated.
