Description
I initially saw some shoes on Instagram from a company called Evelyn & Rowe, Chicago. I then went to the website to research and ultimately purchase shoes and a pari of pants. By using crafty and misleading language and placing American flags on the site, it seems that the site was based in the US. They accepted all forms of payment, shared a story about how they started in Chicago, and offered a 30-day return policy, which is why I made the purchase, because I thought I would return to a warehouse in the US, a fraction of the cost that it would take to ship to China. This was a dropshipping fraud, a bait and switch to make it seem I was ordering product from a US seller and that the quality of the product was superior to what it actually is. The return process is onerous and expensive, seemingly in order to deter returns. The only way to be in touch with the company is through an email they provided, no phone number, no chat, no mailing address, no other way to follow up. They did respond with an opaque process of returning the product with a bogus and/or incorrect address. I was unable to create a shipping label with the address they provided, though an estimated quote put the cost to ship to China at over $100, more than the cost of the initial purchase. Further research indicated that many people have made complaints that the company did not refund them and/or they never heard from the company again.
