Main Street Renewal - is running a scam renting operation. I rented with them for just under 2 years and at the end they posted a move out charge for $716.00 Per NC Law - once a resident moves out, the only thing I am responsible for is any outstanding rent. They charged me to cut the lawn, repaint the whole house, replace drywall, clean the house, and replace a part of the tub. Again, per NC law - I am not responsible to pay anything beyond outanding rent. I have documentation that all of my rent is paid. Additionally - I moved out of my property early, they did not give me an option to end my lease early despite offering to pay a couple of months proactively so they could post and re-lease it with an approved applicant. In the fine print of our lease - they have to make a “reasonable effort to re-list and re-lease” the property so that I am no longer liable for the rent. However - there is someone who had a similar issue as myself where they left their lease early and MSR re- listed the property at a non competitive rate (comparative to the housing / renting market) likely with an intention to deter new renters until the lease was over even though he hadn’t been living in the house for months. I have a lot of grievances against MSR - but when it comes to stealing money they are not legally obligated to, I want to make sure I can inform other renters against falling subject to a scam renting company.
