Description
I attempted to apply for a U.S. passport online through a website called passportsubmission.us, which appeared to be an official government service. The site was advertised as allowing users to complete a passport online and used government-style language and formatting that closely resembled the official DS-82 renewal process. It requested extensive personal information, including my full legal name, address, date and place of birth, parents’ names, Social Security number, and contact details. After completing the form, I was charged $141 to my debit account. Only after payment was processed did the website state that the application must be printed and taken to a passport agency, meaning no actual online passport service was provided. The site is not affiliated with the U.S. Department of State, provided no legitimate passport processing, and served no purpose beyond collecting sensitive personal information and charging a fee. I am disputing the charge and submitting this complaint to warn others. Official passport services should only be completed through travel.state.gov.
