I applied for an HR Assistant role at First HR Connect. They responded via email asking me to complete an interview questionnaire, they stated they had received too many applications to do phone interviews, so they would be determined based on the responses on the questionnaire. I answered the questions and returned the questionnaire. They responded first thing via email, that I needed to get on teams with a Ms. Claudia O’Connor and do a short chat interview. After about 10 minutes of ethics questions, she stated I would be hired and receive an employment contract, to please sign and return. I signed and returned, they then sent direct deposit, tax form and an insurance form. I sent them all this information. They then emailed that I would be completing 5 days of training for 1 hour a day, all via teams chat. I was sent an invoice for materials I would need for the role (1980.26) and then overnighted a check to then purchase the materials from the vendor. I was asked to send the order initially through a Cash App but it wouldn’t go through, so I was asked to get money orders and fed ex them overnight. I started to realize the training I was doing had nothing to with HR but were excel spreadsheet reports and I was basically wasting time plugging in data that wasn’t HR related at all. I had been chatting with Claudia on Teams for a couple days, and received a note from my bank that there was a hold on the check I deposited. I started to look at everything and realized it was in fact a scam job offer.
