Description
I was trying to apply for food assistance/snap benefits. This website (Helping Hands Act) was the first one to come up so I thought it was legit I applied and they said that I qualified for benefits and to call this number (855) 467-7233. I called the number and they asked me if I needed assistance with food, clothing, rent assistance, Internet, assistance, or health assistance. They told me I had qualified for a lot of their assistance like help with the Internet. The first person I talked to you, did not ask for my SSN. They told me my application would take 1-2 hours and someone would call me back (never called me back). They Did however, say that I qualified for help with my Internet, so they had transferred me to someone who said I qualified for help through AT&T. The man on the phone told me I could receive a discount for my Internet. He then asked me questions like my address, age and even my SSN because they needed to run a “ soft credit score” for the internet.. I was sent emails from him that show it AT&T on them and seemed legit, but now I know it is a scam.. He told me that my Internet box would be here in 48 hours or so, and was trying to connect me with these other people who said they could help me with “home security”. They transferred me, but I told him I was not interested, but he was persistent, and told me to hear them out to let them know that I wasn’t interested. So when I was transferred, I really couldn’t understand the guy, but I told him I wasn’t interested and he said OK and the call was ended. After that, I started to receive spam calls and text so I knew something was wrong.
